Lemonthyme Wilderness Retreat
Certificate of Excellence

These are comfortable wooden chalets with older style decor. They have all the basics and are clean. The main building houses the Resturant which serves reasonably good meals $47 for 2 courses and $60 for 3, white wine $11-12 a glass. The cooked breakfast was good. The 8km gravel road to the lodge is winding and turning which has to taken slowly. From the turn off its 30 minute drive to Cradle Mountain.

Lemon thyme Lodge is in a lovey setting deep in the rain forest, certainly away from it all,
Our tree top cabin was delightful and nicely furnished and the food in the restaurant was good but a bit pricy. HOWEVER, beware when paying!, We had the very unpleasant experience of being charged three times on our credit card, but did not discover this until we had left. We have been trying for over 2 months to get a repayment. We sent 4 emails to the Manager, not one of which received a reply, and only after making 4 phone calls have we received SOME of our money back, but there is still a short fall of over £70. We feel the management is both sloppy and cynical, giving little regard to the reputation of their accommodation. Rob keeps saying "You have my word" but as far as we are concerned his word is worthless.

Our group was offered a stay at the Lodge after a booking elsewhere fell through. Having not heard of Lemonthyme previously, we had some reseverations around food and the isolated nature of the site. That all disappeared within minutes of arriving!. The cabins were well set up and the restaurant offered a number of well priced menu options.
We took advantage of a number of easy walks around the site and the tracks are well laid out and interesting.
Much more private and "closer" to nature than the Cradle Mt accomodation.

Room Tip: Being of all timber construction, you can expect to hear a bit of creaking as people move about.

This lodge is certainly in the wilderness and the first drive up the 8km unsurfaced road can be a little daunting but it is well worth the drive. we were upgraded to a spa cabin and it could not have been more comfortable or cleaner. The main house is a huge log cabin and is absolutely enchanting warm and friendly. this is where the restaurant and reception are based. the dinner was excellent and good value. all the dishes we had on our two night stay we're very good but the cheese soufflé and the chocolate pudding should not be missed. breakfast was cooked to order and delightfully fresh.
it is about a 40 min drive to cradle mountain and an excellent option for this area

What a disappointment. We booked a room in the lodge having miss understood the description so moved to a cabin which was in our opinion over priced compared to other properties on the area. Whilst luxury is a subjective view we would consider the accommodation more a 'backpackers style' although they would not be happy with paying $275. A cabin at Peppers down the road with access to superior facilities was $55 a night less. The staff were untrained and dinner basic at $35 a main over priced. The owner doubled as receptionist & waiter and manager and as a waiter knew nothing about the menu. The place is tired, it needs a facelift, the staff need training, the owner needs to lift his game and his personal presentation. As a hire car user the 8k drive over unmade up road can seriously damage both the bodywork and your excess!

We are so disappointed with you review of our property. It seems so inconsistent with the many gracious compliments and accolades we continually receive. To describe the tree top spa cabin that you were upgraded to as “more a ‘backpacker’s style’” of accommodation only suggests you have little experience as a backpacker. This style of cabin is appropriately presented consistent with its wilderness location featuring natural Tasmanian species of timber, its own balcony opening into the trees, gas heating in the main room and floor heating under the tiled floor in the bathroom, queen sized bed, mini –bar and tea/coffee making facilities. And the price you paid was $172.50 per night inclusive of full buffet and cooked breakfast.

As the owner and manager of Lemonthyme Lodge I do my very best to ensure our guests have a wonderful experience at Lemonthyme Lodge. I accept I’m not going to be successful all the time but I will continue to learn and use my best endeavour. But I must say that my staff are well trained, exceptionally accommodating with whatever guests’ request may be and are very proud of the commendations they consistently receive. Quotes which speak for themselves from the guest’s book this month include “lovely staff”, “absolutely awesome”, “great service”, “***staff”.

The 8 kilometres down Dolcoath Road is essentially part of the wilderness experience of arriving at Lemonthyme Lodge. The road is unsealed but is in good condition. It should be driven at the recommended speed limits. To suggest that the road will seriously damage the bodywork of your car is, put simply, a gross misstatement.

Staying here was one of the highlights of our family's trip to Tasmania. We stayed in the rooms above the restaurant, but by the time we were ready to go to bed, the restaurant had closed, so there was no disturbance to us going to sleep.
In the morning however, music for the restaurant staff started at 8.00am, and continued for almost the whole day :(
I felt the tariff was value for money, with a cooked breakfast included in our room rate. The quality of the dinner in the restaurant was very high, and was priced accordingly. On the second night we ordered the "BBQ pack" for $30/2 people (meat + potatos + salad + bread etc) to cook ourselves, which was great value, as well as being an enjoyable family experience.

The log cabins in the tree lines offer stunning views and there is plenty of wildlife. The room we stayed in was called 'wattle' and was comfortable and clean, however, the floorboards beneath the carpet moved each time we walked over them. Because there was a room adjoining ours, every time they walked around we felt it too. It's not a huge deal as our neighbours were pretty quiet, but something to bear in mind if you're a light sleeper.
The best thing about this property is the hikes hey have. We took a 2 hour hike to champagne falls and bridal veil falls and they were stunning! There are a variety of hikes for all fitness types and they are less frequented than those at cradle mountain.
My only gripe was the cost of eating at their restaurant. Because of the remoteness of this property, you are limited to bringing food with you (there were no facilities to cook with in our room) or eat at their restaurant. It was around $48 for two courses which are average dishes a bit of a monopoly really.
