“Pleasent stay”
Reviewed November 21, 2007

We enjoyed our stay at LemonThyme. The room was a good size and the log fire made it special. If you are after a quiet, relaxing and romantic weekend, then this is a good place to come. It’s not however big on luxury – its more rustic.

The food was enjoyable and the log fire in the main room lovely. However it’s the walks around the lodge that we really enjoyed.

We stayed here one night while visiting Cradle Mountain. We chose it because it offered reasonably-priced accomodation in the Cradle Mountain area (about $100 AUD for a lodge room with shared bathroom--separate spa cabins are much more expensive). The lodge was 8km off the main road on a narrow dirt track. It was rustic in style, with heavily wooded grounds and some walking tracks. One of its spa cabins would offer a woodland retreat for someone who mostly wants to stay put. But our lodge room had no sound insulation and we could hear every word from the dining room below until late in the evening. We wouldn't stay there again.
We also ate dinner there--expensive and rather mediocre. But the lodge is too far off the main road to make it easy to have dinner else where and then drive back at night.
The young staff was great.

We stayed at this lodge on the recomendation of a friend , rather than book at the Cradle Mountain Lodge. We understood that Lemonthyme was right in the heart of the cradle mountain attractions. When we arrived at Cradle Mountain we immediatley took off for a hike around Dove Lake which was very invigorating and enjoyable. We thought we would come back again in the morning and experience another interesting hike. When we finally made enquiries as to where our accomodation was located we were in for a surprise - it was 30-40 minutes drive away from Cradle Mountain! By the time we reached Lemonthyme, after a comfortable drive, followed by an 8 km unsealed track, we knew that we would not be able to return to another great hike at Cradle Mountain without altering our schedule. We had reserved 2 nights at Lemonthyme just to experience Cradle Mountain. The decision to stay at Lemonthyme was ours, and it was a logistical mistake and not a reflection on Lemonthyme. The accomodation was very comfortable, despite the fact that there was absolutely no tv, radio, phone available. The on-site restaurant was OK - one wagtail thought it was good while the other was not impressed! The next night we made other arrangements while exploring other towns and areas in the region. If you are looking for a wilderness location with absolute peace and quite then Lemonthyme will be just perfect. As for our friend - well he had his reasons for staying at Lemonthyme, which were just right for him. We had other ideas and unfortunately we did not research our itinerary planning quite enough.

We stayed in two bedroom log cabin, which was quite an unusual place to stay in and quite enjoyable. The decor was quite good, not especially cosy but very comfortable. It was nice to be secluded, staying directly in the forest up a long, dusty track.

Unlike the other reviewer we found the dinner of a high class, they had full three course menu with good food. The only problem was the staff. One guy was great, but all the other waitresses seemed intent on getting us out of there as quickly as possible, trying to remove our plates before we were finished and even asking my father if he was 'done with that', referring to a full cup of coffee in front of him. It did rather ruin an otherwise pleasent experience.

There is an old adage, "you are as only as good as your weakest link" and none could be more true than Lemonthyme.

Lemonthyme is a beautiful log cabin set in the lush wilderness of the Cradel Mountain area. It is an oasis set 8km of the main road that is reached by dirt road.

We had "Lorinna" cabin, which is to say our own private suite, overlooking the bush land. The rooms are generous with a faux gas log fire, couches, bed and en-suite. There are magazines to read, mini bar, but no music, radio, TV or phone. Perhaps that is the way you would want it. Personally, I would want a phone for many reasons but we'll get to that later.

We spent only one night at Lemonthyme and it was the 26th of December (Boxing Day). As what you would expect of Lemonthyme we were asked if we would want the buffet dinner and being we were in the middle of nowhere, we accepted, expecting something delicious.

Dinner consisted of cold beef, cold chicken, some steamed vegitables, potatoes, no salad of any kind, and some bread rolls.

Desert consisted of fruit salad and cheese.

This is the sort of stuff you would find at a very cheap pub and even then you would get salad. Price $40 per person for what should have been, at best $20 per person.

Rember your only other alternative is to go hungry.

Here's the twist. We met half the people then next day in Strahan who stayed at Lemonthyme that night. And, they were as mad as we were. In fact the wispers were travelling fast around town.

As for not having a phone in the room. My wife need to contact her mother, and I wanted to book my Gordon River Cruise. The solution, "Drive 6km up the road and you'll get mobile coverage or use the public phone next to the kitchen".

Its the little things that would stop me from ever comming back.
