Perfectly appropriate accommodations. The cabins all look a bit long in the tooth but inside everything was in perfect working conditions, clean, and quite nice. I give it an "average" rating because there was just nothing to get excited about. We never saw any management while we were there but key hand-off was efficiently arranged. I don't know if it was broken or non-existent but we didn't have wifi. Distance from Cradle Mountain is about 20 minutes during daytime, longer at night when you have to watch for wallabies and wombats. Really nothing around it, just a restaurant across the road that didn't impress me.

Would I stay here again? Sure, without hesitation, but it may not be my first choice.

I was a bit apprehensive after reading some of the negative reviews, but I was needlessly worried. We stayed in the Roland chalet. This one doesn't have a wood heater but it is adequately heated nonetheless. While we weren't worried if there was no phone coverage, which all the reviews claimed, we are with Telstra and had plenty of coverage. I would hazard a guess that this is not so with all providers, but that's the case in a fair bit of Tasmania. The bed was comfortable. There are good cooking facilities. There were bacon and eggs in the fridge and bread with spreads on the counter. The spa is of a generous size. There is an electric blanket. There is also a clock radio in one of the bedsides. For entertainment there is a TV/DVD combo along with DVD's, a Bluetooth speaker with radio too, and a set top box. There are other chalets close by, but we never heard anything. Shepherd and Donna do contact you prior to your stay with vital information. This can also be found in an envelope at reception. Please don't expect to be on Cradle Mountain's doorstep, this is a twenty minute drive away. This is the Cradle-Coast municipality, hence Cradle Alpine Retreat. You won't find many of Tassie's natural wonders within five minutes of where you stay, and Cradle Mountain is no exception. So while it's not the Ritz, for the price this establishment is definitely worth checking out. We'd happily go again.

Wellington cabin was very cute and cosy and well equipped. Huge spa bath. Shower head a bit low for tall people! Added surprise of bacon and eggs in the fridge. Due to roads and wildlife, we didn’t feel comfortable going out at night but the kitchen had everything we needed so we cooked and then ate out on the verandah. Loved it!

A more budget friendly option as opposed to staying at Cradle. It's only a 20 min drive from here. Clean chalet/cabin style accommodation. The heating was on when we arrived. Bed and all amenities were clean and comfortable. We ate at the restaurant on the second night. Meal was lovely and drinks were reasonably priced. Do not leave it too late to wander over for dinner however. Would definitely stay here again. Quiet bushland location.

The cabin was set in the heart of the bush down a track so there was plenty of wildlife around in a very tranquil setting. The accommodation was very comfortable with a well equipped kitchen and bathroom as well as a comfortable bed. The local restaurant was only 100m up the track for an evening meal if you did not wish to cook.
