I have read some of the other reviews for Dudley Cellar Door, and have to say that the staff which we met were incredibly friendly so perhaps they have solved this now. The view was spectacular, probably the best view from all of the Cellar Doors we visited. I think the lady who served us was called Kel. She was very honest and approachable, gave us information about the island, about the wines and even talked about other Cellar Doors on the island, giving recommendations which I felt was a very honest approach. We did some wine tasting on the morning before going out on Ocean Safari, and returned afterwards for some food. Some of the wines were very nice and we took home 2 Rose and a Sweet Red. The food wasn't the best, the pizza selection didn't offer any neutral flavorings such as Cheese and Tomato but instead offered more of a gourmet selection. This didn't really matter as we really went back to have more wine, and the food was more of a convenience.

Firstly let me say that the wine was lovely and the view stunning, the lack of air conditioning was unpleasant being a 40+ hot day but we were willing to overlook at, however the 'choose your own platter' was a disgrace. You are directed to select what you want on your platter from the fridge, which is ok for takeaway, But to eat in a winery is a bit crass, but ok its a cellar door fair enough, we did that, expecting them to take our selection to the kitchen and plate it up and bring it out, but no they just dump your selections in their packets not even open on a plate with a knife to take to your table to open the packets yourself and try and create yourself a platter, we were quite frankly in shock siting there with a plate of cryovaced produce, for that experience I might a well have gone to the IGA and buy the same stuff for a lower price. Its just lazy and insulting. Most venues you go to you would purchase a platter with a sample of the produce and then you could purchase what your enjoyed to take home, that would be a nice experience. But even if they use the excuse of 'its a cellar door experience' so you have to select yourself out of the fridge to just dump the unopened packets on a plate that is a poor excuse for lazy service at very least they should plate up for the customer.

Thank you for your review. We are glad to hear you enjoyed our wine. It is very rare that it gets to 40+degrees on the Island without a pleasant sea breeze, therefore we have not yet found the need to install an air con in our Cellar Door. We developed the 'create your own platter' option due to the demand of people wanting small snacks to go with a glass of wine, and it provides an option outside of our kitchen serving hours. It is also a way of showcasing a large array of delicious Kangaroo Island produce, and as you choose each item yourself, you do not end up with anything you don't want on your platter.
Cheers

We arrived at Dudley Cellar Door on a cold, windy morning when we were too early for the Cape Willoughby Lighthouse tour (they start at 11:30)...so backtracked a bit to find somewhere warm and cosy. Couldn't have chosen better! We weren't interested in tasting wine at that time of morning but they have coffee and cake, not to mention a wonderful view out over the rolling, grassy hills and coastline. We enjoyed our hot coffee and a cookie while relaxing on a comfy lounge to enjoy the view.

We came across this stunning Cellar Door on our recent short stay on KI. Really unique in that you can select your do it yourself platter form the frig, match it with one of their outstanding wines, we chose a Rose, and there you have lunch. Anything you don't finish you take with you. Really good idea, incidentally we ate the lot and drank all the wine! A must do if you get to Kangaroo Island!

Don't be put off by the dirt road and long driveway in to Dudley Winery. Once you arrive the warm welcome and fabulous view makes it worthwhile. Our time was limited but we had a most enjoyable wine tasting and great coffee. The items for sale were high quality and service was efficient. We would have loved to stay to try some of the platters on offer. Definitely worth the drive.
