This is a fish and chip shop selling fish and chips.

To pretend it has anything else to recommend it is stretching the imagination. The service is peremptory and the hype unbelievable........so don't !

This shop is trying to go for a gourmet style, you buy individual servings , no bulk chip, with dim sims and a potato cake on the side here it is open for a limited time of 4:30-7:45 pm. We decided to try this shop firstly the food options on KI are limited and it was highly recommended. However it did not live up to the hype, it is on the high priced side for a fish a chip shop a very small piece of fish battered and one grilled, with a small amount of chips and basic salad is $17, but ok almost everything on the island is overpriced. The batter would have been nice but had been cooked in oil that was a too low temperature, which did keep the fish moist but the batter was oily and white and a bit soggy, the standard option for fish a garfish not a great fish very tasteless. The chips were undercooked making them edible but slightly unpleasant, the salad was boring but fine, we where there for a week and the more exotic options were sold out everyday, its a shame as they are really the only fish and chip shop and have a prime location with great views if they stopped trying to be so fancy, and stuck to the basics it would be the go-to place, so much good produce on the island but they don't seem to be able to cook it, cooking in low temperature old with a sub-par fish is really amateurish which a a bit odd considering the owner is supposed to be a chef. The staff there were disinterested to the point of rudeness and miserable we did notice on our last day that it was up for sale, here hoping that someone who actually want to be there runs it and sticks to the basics as a general rule people go to a fish and chip shop to get great fresh fish and chips a a reasonable price, they don't go to eat lobster and marron.

I assume that this place is the same as the 'Fish Café' on North Terrace, Penneshaw that appears on Trip Advisor. Why does it get 2 review sites TA? It certainly doesn't deserve that.

We ordered one of the specials which came with salad, the 'famous' marron (a local freshwater crayfish) and garfish because, as we were told by the owner, 'the King George Whiting is overpriced and doesn't taste of much'.

After going away for half an hour as we were told to do (odd because the place was not exactly busy), we returned to collect our order. Finding somewhere to sit and eat it is difficult, particularly if the weather is not so good. There are only a couple of barrels, each with 2 chairs, on the pavement outside.

The order was served in disposable cartons with horrid plastic and easily broken cutlery. The marron was the smallest piece of crayfish I have ever seen (are they allowed to harvest them so small?) and tasted of very little. However, it was well cooked as was the garfish, thus saving this review from being a 'terrible'. Chips were OK but the lettuce leaves that comprised the salad were a disgrace - the sort of thing you see underneath the stalls in our local markets.

Not wonderful and not cheap. Most disappointing after all the hype.
