“Romantic escape”
Reviewed May 22, 2014

We recently stayed here for our 20th Wedding Anniversary and it was the most luxurious, relaxing, romantic night away ever! 20 years ago I felt like a Princess and here at Spicers Peak Lodge I felt like a Queen! Every last little detail was thought of. We were told the only thing we were to lift in the next 24 hours was a glass or a fork, and wow, were they correct! The room was gorgeous, the food was impeccable and the staff were superb! We were even offered a coffee to go for the trip home. I can't wait to experience the other Spicers properties, as this was sublime!!!

Deserves all the accolades it gets for the stunning setting, facilities and general ambience/service.

However the inflexible approach to dining including ridiculous 'you must eat at 7pm' rules ruin what should be a relaxing stay. This isn't mentioned on the website or in advance by staff, funnily enough.

Likewise the obsession with 'degustation' (like it's the only restaurant in Australia to offer this) is strange and makes for an all or nothing approach for dinner. It's fine for a couple of nights max but no more. Food quality is very good in fairness but portion sizes vary massively, leaving you full/hungry depending on choices

This might seem like sour grapes but at the prices they charge, the whole experience should be geared around the customer and seamless, but it's not.

A shame - it really is a beautiful place but the approach to food service is like something from the the 1950's - which isn't good enough.

Dear LazyD0G,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review on Trip Advisor. The entire team and I appreciate all feedback and suggestions so that we can continue to improve our service and the Peak Lodge experience for our guests.

We are pleased to hear you enjoyed the setting, facilities, ambience and service.

Thank you for your feedback regarding dining times. Our seating time for our degustation is 7pm due to our degustation experience taking approximately two hours.

The Peak Restaurant offers al-a-carte menus for breakfast and lunch however we are not an al-a-carte restaurant of an evening as we change our menus daily and personally cater to our guests for special dietary requirements including likes and dislikes which is unique to other retreats and restaurants. We can offer this personal service as we only host up to 26 guests at one time. We also offer 1,2,3 course options in-room or in our restaurant as well as gourmet antipasto and cheese plates as an alternative for guests who do not wish to have our 5 or 7 course degustation experience.

We appreciate your feedback and we will certainly review our portions sizes and dining times.

Thank you again for taking the time to write a review and we do hope to welcome you back to Peak Lodge or another Spicers Retreat in the near future.

Warm Regards,
Leasa and the Peak team

Our second visit to Spicers Peak and improved on last time by bringing friends. Not going to compare it to anywhere else - there is nothing else like this in SEQ. Finally we have an answer to NZ lodges

Spicers Peak Lodge offers guests the ultimate getaway. Sitting on a magnificent hill top sits the luxurious lodge, surrounded by lush well tended gardens with a spa & pool taking in stunning views. We were warmly welcomed by our hosts & offered refreshments & lunch. The quality of the lodge & the rooms was of a very high standard right down to the smallest detail. The fireplace in our room really added to the ambience & we really enjoyed lying on the lush grass in front of our veranda watching the sun set each evening. The rooms were very welcoming & comfortable & the lovely ladies who turned down our super soft beds & left treats for us each night were delightful. The food & wine were sensational. Our compliments to the chef for such an innovative menu. All the staff were warm, friendly & very knowledgeable. Nothing was too much trouble. We enjoyed early morning runs around the properties varied walking tracks, tennis, a packed picnic lunch at a lookout, tennis & relaxing in the spa. We returned home totally spoiled & relaxed. Spicers Peak Lodge is a very special place indeed

A wonderful, peaceful and luxurious escape - just what the doctor ordered. Favourite bits: the log fire in room, heated spa under the stars, every need catered for, professional but never overbearing staff and the wonderful dinners. Highly recommend if you are looking to escape, unwind and relax in style.
