Our adult family (3 couples) booked a three bedroom cottage here for a Xmas in July celebration. Staff were very helpful with planning and couldn't do enough for us. They had decorated the sitting room in our cottage with all the Xmas trimmings... tree, fireplace mantle etc. They were happy even to organise a special menu for us in the restaurant for our Xmas Dinner. If I had a criticism it would be just a tiny comment that the bedrooms and ensuites were a little bit tired i.e., paintwork etc and there's evidence of water problems above the shower/baths. Toilets looked a little grubby although I'm sure its just that they can't use harsh cleaners because of their treatment system. Water pressure in the cottage was horrible so a 20 minute shower was needed to rinse out the shampoo, and there were times when we were unable to flush the toilet... possibly also due to lack of pressure? Overall, however, it was a beautiful weekend and the staff were wonderfully attentive. Our daughter is pregnant and the restaurant staff were extremely accommodating with her requests for food being cooked through etc. I would say that the restaurant was a little bit expensive for its type, but we thoroughly enjoyed everything. The tennis court needs a bit of attention (it's uneven and some of the line tape has worn off and is flapping about which could be a bit dangerous if you were having a serious hit). The trail ride was wonderful, with a very helpful guide who was understanding of our beginner riders. All in all, I'd recommend this property as a great alternative to the beach weekend away... with its lovely fireplaces, pretty views and historic and stunning homestead with lovely sitting areas to read a book or play chess etc., it's just a thoroughly pleasant winter getaway destination! Our family will certainly be back for Xmas in July weekend next year... thank you Spicers Hidden Vale. Next year we'll try a larger cottage, perhaps the Wagyu and take the grandmother with us...

Room Tip: The cottages all had lovely views but vary in level of luxury... best to phone and ask if you have a...

Thank you to Spicers Hidden Vale for an all too short holiday for our family. What a treat it is as a mother to see your children roam free, feeding animals, bike riding and up upon a horse. There are so many things to do and also so many things not to do - like cooking - YAY. Delicious dinners, generous breakfasts. There is not a bad word I can say about this place except my husband was disappointed the clay shooting was no longer available. I wish we could have stayed longer - forever.

Room Tip: We were very spoilt - we had the Black Angus room.

Only a one night stay so all comments should be judged in that light.
We stayed in the most basic rooms (Mountain View?). The room itself was clean and comfortable if a little "cutsy" in decor for my taste. The bed was comfortable and well maintained and everything worked well but don't expect anythiong special. The soundproofing could be better but it never really bothered us.
The main lodge is really wonderful - very pleasant and comfortable. It was a delight to sit with a wine by the fireplace and relax. We had dinner in the restaurant in th evening and my expectations were not high however the meal was very good indeed. Not quite in the "superb" category but not far off. The service was generally very good and friendly without being too over-bearing. It was a bit expensive however at least it was good quality and very well presented.
What made our stay was the great recreation facilities. We used the mountain bikes for two rides and they were good quality in generally reasonable condition. The many well signed tracks and plentiful wildlife made for a great experience.
All in all this is a very nice place to stay and we look forward to going back next time for longer.

The valley rooms were quite nice and had a good view. You could do as little or as much as you like. We went away for two days of silence and relaxation and this place definately offers this. The restaurant was nice but slightly over priced, a minimum of $65 per person, I'd get better in the Brisbane CBD for less. Given you're in the bush there is no alternative. Staff were excellent. Overall I really liked the place and would go back to do some of the activities on offer.

Room Tip: Call the place as there are many options.

I was excited to be heading to this well known and classy resort for a 2 day work conference. However, the overall ambience of the resort was somewhat dulled due to lack of sleep. The room I was allocated was one of 4 in a refurbished wooden building which had great character. But it was so noisy! The floor boards creaked whenever someone walked around. The walls are not soundproof and I was forced to listen to the radio of the guest in the next room, although that was marginally better than the phone calls he made which were all too audible. Above the entrance door to your room is lovely piece of fretwork and glass, but this means the lights in the corridor outside shine into your room all night. Unfortunately this nocturnal experience overshadowed the other very positive features of the resort.

My husband and I decided at the last minute to see if there were any rooms available for a Saturday night. A couple of emails later and we were booked in for a dinner, bed and breakfast package in a Heritage Suite. We took a lovely hour drive from Brisbane out to Grandchester, stopping for sandwiches in Laidley. On arrival at Spicers, we were quickly and cheerfully checked in and given keys to our suite. We were informed that there was to be a wedding in the afternoon which I was a little nervous about, fearing drunk people wandering around all night, but to their credit we never saw or heard a peep from anyone from the wedding after the ceremony.
Our suite was Room 9, which had a gorgeous view over the lap pool and mountains surrounding. The room itself was huge - with a large bed, lounge area, writing desk, log fire, and full bathroom with spa bath. There were a couple of small problems - the toilet seat was cracked and the toilet bowl itself was quite stained - perhaps due to the use of bore water? Or perhaps just a very old toilet. Also putting fire starters in the rooms would be good, and also DVD players. I realise you can get one from reception but perhaps just building a small shelf for the DVD player would be an idea. We didn't realise we could get one until after dinner and felt it was too late to be hassling them.
There are lots of activities to do here - from hiking and biking, to horse riding, 4WDing. We played tennis, fed the farm animals (which were some very aggresive goats!!), and went for a short walk. The activities area looks well run and lots of people were enjoying it.
At night we were treated to a three course meal in Cottons restaurant. The food was exceptional, each course better than the next. Perfect sized meals and presented beautifully and quickly. The table service was slightly lacking, but I believe this is because the one person serving was run off his feet. Maybe due to the wedding that was on they had all their staff up there. As we were finishing up some extra staff arrived so this probably helped things a bit.
After dinner we found a Games room which had a ping pong table, billiard table, and TV with music channels playing. There was also a bar and chairs here. Not sure why no one mentioned this room as we ended up spending a couple of hours here at night and the next day. As far as I could see it wasn't mentioned anywhere. We also enjoyed a game of chess sitting in the lounge area.
Breakfast was again served in the restaurant, and was okay. I think they were busy again due to the wedding. There was a continental buffet followed by a choice of three hot dishes.
All in all, we really enjoyed ourselves here. Having stayed at several other Spicers properties we feel can now make some comparisons. This property seems it would be well suited to families and couples alike. It is a much larger property in terms of guest rooms than the other ones we have stayed at, so you don't get that feeling of privacy and seclusion. But it was certainly not overcrowded. In terms of price we felt this was well priced for the inclusions. We'll definately be back, hopefully with a large group next time to enjoy more of the property.

Room Tip: The suites are more private and secluded. The Valley rooms share a lounge area and would be a great...

Take the drive - it is worth it. The setting is amazing, the restaurant is wonderful and not as pricey as you may think. You do not have to be a house guest to have breakfast, lunch, dinner or even coffee ...just sit back and enjoy the tranquility , have a wander and soak up the views.

Room Tip: I haven't stayed here but every room is a little cottage so you can't go wrong
