“A bit dated but clean, comfy and friendly - does the job for a quick overnight stop”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 8, 2013

If you can look past the dated building and decor, this is a reasonable place for an overnight stop.

We found the staff to be friendly and helpful, the room was very clean and the bed large and comfy. There was some traffic noise (which tends to be the case with most places located on the Bruce Highway), and a bit of noise from plumbing, etc - though we still slept pretty well.

Rooms are en suite, and have some useful little extras such as an iron and hairdryer. Microwave, fridge, kettle and toaster also available.

We have stayed at Avocado Motor Inn for the last 3 years while participating in the annual Childers Multicultural Festival and also the Woodgate Fair which is twice a year. The Childers event draws over 30,000 people so getting a room can be tricky for this date and most places book out a year in advance. We have found Nev and Ruth to be very efficient and professional to deal with. We can rely on them for our booking. A recent upgrade since our last visit is FREE WIFI -which is a bonus. We look forward to next year!

The rooms are dated, run down, noisy and not that clean, but it does not pretend to be anything but a place for transient workers to sleep. Aside from the property issues, our room was not cleaned, or beds made during our multi night stay, but that may have been our fault for sleeping in. If this motel had been reasonably priced, i would be more sympathetic to its flaws, but, at close to $100 per night, it was also poor value. Owners were helpful, tried hard, but complained about taking credit card for payment, prefering cash. We have not stayed anywhere else in Childers, so have nothing to compare this motel with on quality or price, so dont want to be too critical. If you need to stay in Childers, this place is safe, owners are hard working and conveniently located (opposite the Woolworths), give it a try, just dont expect a bargain or the Ritz.

It is an older motel which doesn't bother me but couldn't understand why the bottom of my feet were dirty. I took a towel and wet a corner of it and rubbed the carpet - it was filthy. I moved the tray on the desk and it was dirty under there as well. The fridge needed to be defrosted, behind the door needed to be cleaned to get rid of the fingerprints. Under the desk on the trim hadn't been cleaned as well. There were crumbs on the chair. On the surface it looked clean but it wasn't. What I will say is that the linen was clean, the bed was reasonable.

A group of us stayed here (the rest of the group at another Childers Motel) while working in the North Burnett assisting flood victims. It did the job. Room was okay but overall a bit dated. A bit of a re vamp would work wonders. As others have said, it is a little noisy being right on the highway. Our main complaint was that the woman running the place refused to make us a hot breakfast...refused. We offered to pay for it out of our own pockets (and we were all volunteering our time for the week) but "No, continental breakfast only." Well, that gave us a few laughs which kept us going during the following days. We also "boycotted" any breakfast the following day, preferring to buy some food at the local IGA. Indeed, it was what it was!!

Room Tip: Check out what's on offer for brekky!!!!

We were driving south from Gladstone and needed a place to stay for one night. This place worked. Adequately clean, adequate bed. Shower with decent water pressure. As noted everything was very very dated and probably original, 40 years old. It was noisy because of the highway traffic right past the motel all night long. I think there were some rooms toward the back that we're probably quieter, but they were all taken. If you are tired of driving and need a bed for the night, this place works. If you expect anything more, you will be very disappointed

Room Tip: Ask for room toward the back away from the highway.

Arrived here at 9.30 pm, too tired to drive any further. The reception was open which was not expected in a small town. The motel should be heritage listed, it is a perfect example of a 60's motel. Very clean, new carpet, so did not feel icky as one might in a motel such as this. The noise of the trucks roaring past on the highway was so loud it was a bit scary. If I was not so tired I would not have slept for the noise. I would not stay here again for this reason.
