Owner description: Founded in 1976, the first museum to honor 4th President James Madison. The Museum houses a wealth of artifacts in its nearly 13,000 square feet of exhibit space that bring to life the rich history of Orange, Virginia. A nice assortment of Madison's belongings along with a large and diverse collection ranging from art and textiles to farm tools and a 1923 Model T. We even have a 1732 Patent House. Only 4 miles from our friends at James Madison's Montpelier, located in the historic town of Orange. Handicap friendly and plenty of parking around the building.

What made this museum special was its size. Rather than being overwhelmed with too much to see, read, and take in in one visit, this museum had enough artifacts to see in one afternoon. It was the perfect complement to Montpelier!

We made a stop at what appeared to be a small museum about our 4th President James Madison. From the outside you would assume that is small, but once inside it is a totally different experience. This museum is huge! It has tons of James and Dolley Madison information and articles! We loved seeing the chair that he sat in as he wrote the Bill of Rights! It also has artifacts from the surrounding area of Orange, Virginia. It would be easy to pass by this place and assume that it isn't anything to stop and see. But if you do, you will be missing out on a great opportunity to learn more about our founding father. The staff was helpful and pointed out items of interest. Books and Videos are also available. If you are going to Montpelier, you must stop here too!
