My wife and I spent the last night of our vacation here as we wanted to visit Montpelier before driving home. The people who work here take great pride in the property and it shows. When we checked in the two women at the desk were very accommodating with trying to best meet our needs and offered suggestions for dinner that were honest and helpful. There are signs saying they are renovating, but to be honest the property looks just fine the way it is and our room was very nice and the beds comfortable. Obviously ownership really cares about the facility if they are upgrading before they really need to. Unfortunately, we were disturbed at midnight by very noisy guests on our floor and as I started down the hall to go to the front desk to inform them the clerk was already on my floor to check out the disturbance and to resolve the problem. Breakfast was typical HI Express but was kept replenished and the server could't have nicer. Recommend highly if you are in the area to visit Madison home or other sites as location outside town overlooking the distant mountains along with a very pretty pool make for a nice stay, and the hotel personnel are just great. Hopefully you won't run into any thoughtless guests like we did, but if you do the management will respond.

i was going to write a long and glowing review, but, after reading the others on here, let me just agree that this may be the best holiday inn/ express ever!?...i don't have a single complaint, but lots of compliments, such as....the unusual location, the drive up the hill, the very pleaseant greeting from front desk staff, cookies and coffee in the lobby, rooms that were very clean and comfortable, friendly housekeeping staff, local art instead of generic junk, nicest breakfast room i've seen in a chain hotel, you can take it outside on the patio,a countryside view od cornfield and farm and the blue ridge, a very nice pool open late hours, and the feeling that the staff takes pride in the hotel's reputation...a very good reputation that it lived up to!

Trip Advisor was right on this one. Slightly outside of town and not the cheapest, but the view from the back window was lovely, the breakfast was good, and the experience was very pleasant. We went into town for dinner, walked around town and studied the statue of the confederate soldier. Stayed here because UVA was having graduation and there was no room in Charlottesville but turned out to appreciate the rural experience. The roads from here to Monticello are lovely. Would be 5 stars but the TV in the next room was a bit loud and we had some trouble getting it turned down.

Room Tip: The view from the back of the place is special.

Attending a funeral nearby, and after pricing the local Inns and B & B's decided on the lower priced Holiday Inn Express. Very impressed. We chose the King with a view, and have a corner room with views of rolling Virginia countryside, farms and lakes. Great way to wake up. Exercise room has two treadmills and a stepper, not bad, since no one else is in there. Complimentary breakfast is heavy on starch, danish, bagels, cereals, no eggs or breakfast meats. Room itself is typical size, flat screen tv, desk, free wireless internet. Bed is surprisingly bouncy, almost comical when you sit down and bounce back up. For the price, though, this is quite a treat.

This hotel had just won the best hotel in the Holiday Inn Express chain when we were there. It was the 10th year in a row they won. It is easy to see why...gorgeous location, great curb appeal, beautiful lobby and breakfast room - everything about it was first rate. Would love to stay there again but once you have seen Montpelier, there isnt a whole lot to see in Orange.

Staff is very nice - Nice Location / View - Mostly Clean

But the walls are very thin - We could hear both sides of us talking right thru the walls.

** I want to be clear - this was not a party - they were both nice families - and not yelling. Just talking normally and it was heard right thru the walls.

I can't add much to that which others have written here. This is a great little motel. It's located in the quiet countryside on the edge of the small town of Orange. We stayed here while visiting Montpelier and Monticello (Montpelier one day; Monticello, the next). It's about 10 minutes from Montpelier and 45-50 minutes from Monticello.

We couldn't have asked for much better of an overnight's stay. The motel is isolated from noise with a wonderful, bucolic view from the back side of the motel. it was quiet, exceptionally clean, friendly, and just plain delightful in all respects. The rooms are comfortable (we had two adjoining) with comfortable beds and with refrigerators and microwaves in the rooms.

The WiFi access was free and easy to log on to (no passwords or keys needed - just check the "I agree" button to concur with the terms and you're on! There was a computer and printer available for guest use.

There were fresh cookies and coffee in the lobby in the afternoon, and fruit and coffee in the morning.

The breakfast area was clean and conscientiously monitored by the gal in charge. It had the typical breakfast bar pickings - fruit juice, fruit, coffee, milk, yogurt, cold cereal, warm scramble eggs, bacon, chicken gravy and biscuits, muffins, bagels, toast, etc.

We thought the rates were very reasonable.

There is a brand new CVS drugstore a stone's throw down the hill from the motel and a number restaurants in town - all within about a 5- 10 minute drive (any more than 10 minutes you'd be out the the side of town).

Any time we're in the Charlottesville, VA area, we'll stay here. Can't beat the price, the comfort, and the great, quiet surroundings. -worth the short drive out of the over-priced Charlottesville area.
