A lovely 1850's plantation home, this 22 bedroom mansion has been converted into a bed and breakfast that drips old southern charm. My wife and I stayed in the Italian suite, which features a massive Jacuzzi room with a huge Jacuzzi, a large balcony, and a very comfortable bedroom with the right blend of modern convenience, revolutionary era feel, and surprisingly trendy decor that worked surprisingly well.

The grounds of the plantation are the second best part of staying here. Big lake, lovely garden....

The best part is the proprietors. Jack and Pat welcome you when you arrive, show you the house, will sit and sip wine and eat cheese with you in the library, and cook a delicious and filling breakfast for you in the morning. They made us feel like family, an that is worth more than anything.

Room Tip: We LOVED the Italian room. It looks more modern....... If you want something that looks more Dolly...

A spectacular and historic house lovingly restored with very attractive grounds. Gracious, fascinating and friendly hosts offering nibbles and wine in the late afternoon. A great base for exploring the area which is full of interesting places to visit. Delicious breakfast but massive - 4 courses! We would have appreciated some options and the chance to decline some. We left a lot and felt awkward.
Our only real quibble was that our room could have been cleaner.

We booked the entire Bed and Breakfast for our family celebration of my daughters graduation from UVA. It was so nice being able to have the whole family under one roof, and our hosts were so very gracious and accommodating to our family. The B&B was beautiful and decorated in a way that reflected not only the care of the owners, but also the history of the Inn. The grounds and garden were equally beautiful and the breakfasts were absolutely delicious! We can't wait to go back and visit the area and this beautiful B&B! Thank you for such a memorable visit and for helping us make our graduation celebration such a success!

We went with our 2 kids (ages 11 & 14) for a UVA graduation along with several other family members so we had the B&B completely booked which was great to have everyone under one roof. The hosts were so gracious and went out of their way to accommodate my kids and the house full of our family members. Not only was the B&B beautiful and immaculate, but it holds some amazing history that the hosts were nice enough to share with us, The grounds and garden were equally beautiful and the breakfasts that were served were truly amazing! We can't wait to go back and not only visit this beautiful B&B but to visit the hosts again too! Thank you for such a memorable visit!

My husband and I went for our one year anniversary. We were pampered, relaxed and spoiled. Everything had been planned and very well thought out. Pat and Jack have thought of everything. The food was perfect, the service was impeccable and the grounds were more than beautiful. The house was so sound proof, unlike any hotel you would visit...the walls are literally a foot and half thick. We cannot wait to go again!

This Bed & Breakfast surpassed all of my expectations. First I need to say that they served the BEST, most delicious breakfast I've ever had! (sorry mom). It's a testament to the love Pat & Jack put into every part of this place and each guest's experience. The rooms were extremely clean, the decor was perfect for this colonial setting, and the hosts were gracious and welcoming. The location was ideal for sight-seeing and long, romantic days filled with picnics, massages, and wine. The hosts are exceptional concierges and planned 4 nights of amazing local dinners, excursions and romantic picnics (with beautifully arranged baskets)! They helped my fiance plan perfect days and nights leading up to the proposal and even recommended we hike Old Rag in the Shenandoah Valley where he popped the question on the summit! Can't say enough about the Mayhurst Inn. Truly a gem in a gorgeous, scenic part of Virginia.

We stayed at the Mayhurst Inn for our anniversary. We found it online while looking around and were drawn in from the descriptions and photos.

We arrived on Friday evening. The Inn is tucked off route 15 so is quiet and unspoiled. We came up to the front and were greeted by the owners, Pat and Jack. They had cheese and wine for a house happy hour. Other guest were there, so we were able to meet some new people and chat in the library. Jack shared menus with us from local restaurants, we picked one and he made reservations for us.

We stayed in the Southern Charm room, a very comfortable room with a fire place, whirlpool tub and shower, and king bed. It was a great room: quiet and spacious.

On Saturday, we woke up to an amazing breakfast in the dining room. Pat is quite the cook! And something about their coffee is amazing.

Jack had arranged for us to take a Civil War battlefield tour (one of the main reasons we stayed there). Phil Audibert was our personal guide for the day, and I can't recommend him enough. We spent over 8 hours touring 4 battlefields and numerous sites. Great recommendation from Jack.

Saturday night enjoyed meeting others at the evening reception, and then had champagne and chocolate strawberries in our room. A perfect romantic evening.

Sunday we were sad to go, but not before another great breakfast. Since it was Easter, Pat had Easter baskets on all the tables.

Pat and Jack are gracious hosts; they pay attention to the little things to make your stay very comfortable. The house has Civil War history of its own. Over all, it's an amazing experience. We loved it and we will be back. If you want a relaxing weekend getaway and a base to visit Monticello, Ashlawn, Montpelier, wineries, Civil War history, then this is the place. You will not be disappointed.
