Amazing location for recovery BBQ after a wedding....

However management did their best to ruin it by charging us £400 to get 15 more clean plates and my beautiful wife was told in no uncertain terms she could NOT give guests any wedding cake!

Quite short sighted given we had spent about £6,000 that day!

Customer service very low on the agenda unfortunately....

Like other reviewers, we travelled here based on the award of 'Best Country Pub' (GPG 2012). Fantastic location, beautiful grounds but we were turned away on a Sunday at 1:30pm as the kitchen was closed from being too busy. The place was certainly not heaving, inside was empty and there were plenty of free tables outside - maybe just bad kitchen management?

Spent a pleasant Saturday night in one of the suites with a fun Japanese spa bath. The room was well designed with a lovely outlook. It was great to secure a one night booking, not always easy in the southern highlands.

Had an enjoyable dinner in the pub where the atmosphere was convivial. Breakfast in the morning was a meagre affair and really the only thing that was not quite up to scratch. Would certainly go back for the accommodation tho.

I stayed here with my boyfriend on a Saturday night. We also ate and drank at the pub the evening we stayed here. Everything we experienced was excellent. The atmosphere at the pub was great, the service was great and the the food was very good too. I had the roast of the day which was a step up from your usual pub roast and beautifully done. My boyfriend had the steak which was also cooked to perfection.

The pub was busy but relaxed and friendly. The accommodation was very comfortable. There was shared bathroom but that wasn't a problem. All the rooms and bathrooms felt like they had recently been renovated. The lady running the accommodation and the pub was very friendly and efficient.

All in all it was a great night and I cant wait to go back in summer when we can experience the outdoor area of the pub!

and a little side note to Les36 who complained about the pizza at the hotel - you ordered a duck pizza...?! say no more...

Our group of five had lunch at the Burrawang Village Hotel after reading the SMH good pub guide. We were very disappointed with the food. The food choices on the menu were pretty ordinary so three of us had the duck pizza. The pizzas were very disappointing - the bases were toasted pide bread which had the texture and taste of dried cardboard. There was very little topping and you couldn't taste any duck flavour. The Burrawang Burger was quite large but the meat had very little flavour. I would rate it as 6/10. The fries were OK but not as good as those you generally get at most other pubs and cafes. The best dish was the risotto balls but they weren't exceptional. The wine prices are reasonable and the views of the surrounding countryside from the beer garden are spectacular. Just don't expect too much in terms of quality food and certainly don't order pizza.

We are regulars visitors to the Southern Highlands and know the area well. It is true that that the Burra Pub does have a beautiful beer garden with sensational views across undulating hills and pastures and is an extremely pleasant place to be on a sunny afternoon. Hiowever - inside the pub is a different story. The food, decor and staff are extremely tired!! Laminated menus that appear not to have been wiped down, food that may be hearty to some, but - 'pub of the year'???? I think not!!!! Uninspiring menu, gluggy food and staff that really do not want to be there. The dining area and outdoor area are inviting. The burra pub has a large cavernous dining area with no added touches such as fresh flowers and sticky tables!

The Briars do everything soo much better - great steaks, atmosphere and (predictable) delicious cakes.

We headed here from Sydney after reading about it winning in the SMH good pub guide. I can only assume there was some bribery going on or the reviewer was very drunk. We left very disappointed. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and while it was busy there was plenty tables free. The menu was very uninspiring and bland but not overly expensive. In fairness we were told there was a wait for food but we didn't expect an hour and a half. Finally when the food came it was not worth the wait. The Caesar salad isn't a caesar salad and the chicken with it was tasteless. The burger was dry and the chips overdone.

If you are thinking of taking a trip out here after reading the good pub guide don't bother. Can that guide even be trusted?
