Within the Hyatt resort but open to all. I was surprised by some of the reviews on service as we found the opposite - it was excellent. Yes it is a bit pricey but the food we had made that not matter: clearly a good chef. Both our fishes were superb. We had a table by the ornamental pond which forms part of the hotel grounds: helped make a good evening

The Swan Court Happy Hour was near perfection in a gorgeous setting, very upscale refined feeling with great big comfortable chairs in the bar reminding us of a very refined English bar. Music was just right for a more mature generation. Our mai tai and long island iced tea were excellent at reasonable happy hour prices. The pupus were outstanding! We recommend a sampler of all the pupus with our favorites calamari fritte and the filet mignon meatball sliders.

On the other end of the spectrum was the overpriced very ordinary breakfast buffet which was really nothing special even on a Sunday when we would have expected something more like a Sunday brunch. The food was okay, but on a scale of 1 to 10 of breakfast buffets, 10 being best, we would only rate this experience a 6. Many better and cheaper breakfasts on Maui.

We had been to Sonz's at the Grand Hyatt on Maui a number of times before and anticipated having what we thought was the best Mai Tai on Maui and the one truest to Trader Vic Bergeron's 1944 recipe. We went tp the bar and waited and waited fior service. After 15 minutes, I went to the bar a few feet away and ordered two Mai Tai's. The bartender said we needed to wait a few more minutes (the bar was open). We asked if any appetizers were available and were told "it's on the menu". While the bartender was working hard, a dozen waiters stood a few feet away spread out through the restaurant with their hand behind their backs. We finally got two Mai Tais after a wait of 30 minutes. Unfortunately, the bar tender never came back to see if we wanted more lot to clear our glasses. Thinking we might get better service, we went to the podium, staffed by several young women. Looking out over the restaurant, there were dozens of empty tables. Despite this abundance we were told it would be another 90 minutes before we could be seated.
I contacts the parent company of the restaurant and spoke with a management representative who apologized and said he would like to make us his guests ffor dinner at Sonz's or another of Tr-Stars restaurants on Maui. He said he would email with the details.
We never heard another word nor received a phone call. This was a great opportunity for service recovery and they blew it.
My recommendation is size up number of diners who don't look distressed and then make cup your mind about dining there. We have had great meals and drinks there before, bu this was not one of those good times.
What was moat disappointing was management's lack of follow though and seeming indifference to what happened..

A gorgeous, romantic setting, especially for significant events like anniversaries. Servers were pleasant and attentive. We started with a Caesar salad and a chopped maui salad that were both very good. The two anchovies were breaded with a rather coarse grain and deep fried on the side, of the Caesar salad, novel. My husband had the Ahi which was definitely rare, warm with a grey, not seared, surface. Knowing this, he enjoyed his entre, fish flavor, noodles, asparagus with a tasty pineapple ponzu sauce. I had the opakapaka which was cooked well but it's delicate flavor was masked mostly by the tomato puree? on top, the rather greasy more than fried hashed purple? potatoes, all sitting in the middle of a lake of very flavorful picatta sauce. The chocolate lava cake dessert was definitely short on 'lava',(sauce) that was spooned on top only in the center of the cake. Overall, though, this was tasty. My husband had the Portuguese sweet bread French toast Bananas foster. This dessert is kind of a wanna be French toast sitting on sliced bananas and a just sweet brown syrup over and around the combo. It has no resemblance to bananas foster at all. The cappuccino was tepid. The Mai Tai's were good.
Overall, the food is over-priced but the atmosphere makes it almost worth it. We'll think twice about going back..

This restaurant is a best find. The food is wonderful and it comes out fast. The service is fantastic and a definite must do if you are spending time in Kaanapali, Maui. Located in the Hyatt Regency, this restaurant ranks right up there with Mama's Fish House in quality.
