“Hometown Breakfast”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2012

My companion and I were on our way to Jacksonville, NC for a wedding and needed a 1/2 way breakfast stop. Plenty of cars at this venue so we turned in. Not disappointed. Great home style comfort food at a reasonable price with very, very nice servers. Totally met my "diner" expectations. Give it a try if your in the area.

“Great service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2012

I wanted to have a Sunday reunion lunch for about 35 family members and everyone on the VA Eastern Shore suggested Sage Diner in Onley. I contacted the owner, Jack, by phone from San Antonio and he agreed to reserve a room for our family. I visited the day before the event, agreeing on a menu. Jack offered good choices and I felt the price per person was very fair. On Sunday the event went beautifully: good food, drinks, salad added to the multiple selections, and deserts ordered individually at end of meal. Everyone had a great time, we were in a very private room, and the staff provided very good service. The food buffet was monitored closely and items were replaced before needed. I was very happy with the entire day and highly recommend this place. While our group was in the private room, the rest of the restaurant was full of diners who all seemed pleased with their meals. Jack was being greeted by many people and seemed to be very popular with the local.

“Pleasant Surprise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2012

While we expected typical diner food we were surprised and delighted that the food was so good. I had a combo grilled shrimp (big, succulent, and cooked just right) with a wonderful small casserole of shrimp/crab in mild butter sauce. Yum! Waitress was busy...pleasant...efficient. Dessert options (although we didn't eat any) were extensive...huge cakes and pies in traditional diner fashion. Probably what is most important is that this place is clearly very popular with local folks (many greeted each other). That is always a sign that the food is probably good and consistent and affordable (prices here are very reasonable). Neat place. And right next door to the Best Western motel. Once upon a time this place was a seafood restaurant. This iteration is MUCH better than that was...and the local trade probably reflects that sentiment as well. Good going, Sage!

“GOOD DINER FOOD”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 9, 2012

Looking for a place to eat as we were passing through the area and noticed a nearly full parking lot. Good basic diner food. Service was attentive and friendly. Prices and selection as would be expected at a diner.

“Great breakfast with lots of local flavor”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 5, 2012

We've only had breakfast there, but they serve lunch and dinner also. It's the kind of place where everyone knows everyone else, there are servers patrolling the tables looking for coffee cups that need refreshing. All kinds of breakfast foods, cooked to order and quickly brought to the table with a smile. The location in Onley is larger, brighter and newer looking than the one we went to in Exmore, but the menu is the same. We both had extensive breakfasts each of the 4 times we have eaten there, and have been unable to spend over $15. A sure bet for a good hot breakfast.
