“Motel type hotel”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2011

This hotel was motel style with access to the rooms from off a main outdoor square behind reception. Our non-smoking room was unavailable, but reception said the hotel was full, so we had to take what was left.
We did not feel safe in our room as the door did not shut properly, so I propped a large chair behind it when we went to sleep for the night.
I would not recommend staying here.

Because of proximity to Route 13 and poor sound insulation of building, it is very noisy. Wouldn't consider staying there again just for that reason.

The room wasn't bad, it was clean and odor free...but the place is old and is showing it's age. Lots of "bad repairs" on the building and doors, but I didn't feel threatened.

That being said, the motel is right next door to a MacDonald's with a HUGE parking lot. There is nothing to do here, being "out in the sticks", so guess what the local kids with their loud bass-thumping stereo do??? Luckily that night they didn't hang around for long.

Breakfast was nothing to shout about, basic but free.

The rates are really good (I paid $75/night with the AMA discount) so if you need an inexpensive layover it's worth it.

Been staying at this hotel for about 13 years now, 1 night only on the way down to OBX. I've stayed in both rooms on the McDonald's side of the hotel and on the interior and it was pretty quiet.

The outdoor pool is decent, it gets a lot of sun in the afternoon and there are 3 tables so you can sit outside and eat with your family.

Breakfast is decent, they have waffles and fruit, cereal milk & juices. There are a few restaurants nearby on the highway and it really is a good value.

My husband, grandson and I stayed here on Thursday, August 6th on our way to Williamsburg, VA. It was clean and very comfortable. We had an interior room which was very quiet. The motel is centrally located and there are several restaurants nearby.

We ate at a wonderful restaurant, Mallard's, that was suggested by the desk clerk. It is on the waterfront about 2 miles away, and had delicious food. The creme brulee is some of the best I've ever had, and I love it. The crab cakes were delicious too.

On our way home from Williamsburg we ate at the Sunrise Restaurant that is right next door to the Comfort Inn. The food was excellent, plentiful, and not expensive. The cream of crab soup was delicious.

This is a good stop to make while traveling, not a spot to stay for a long time.

We stayed at this hotel on a Saturday night 8/8/09. The hotel is nice enough; however at 2AM in the morning I heard a lot of loud noises, boom boxes, people talking etc and got up and looked out the window and the entire McDonald's parking lot next door was full of cars, lights and noisy kids. They stayed for about 1/2 hour and cleared out. At 3:09AM they were back. If you want to sleep on your Saturday night, don't stay here.

2 story property, all exterior corridors. Check in was smooth, requested a room on ground floor I could drive up to. Room was clean and comfortable, good mattress and pillows. Fridge but no microwave. Decent TV channel lineup. Good water pressure and plenty of hot water. No desk in the room, but a round table and 2 chairs. Due to the height of the table, I found it uncomfortable to work at, so ended up sitting on the bed and pulling the nightstand around to set my laptop on. Wi-Fi connection worked well with a strong signal and I was pretty far from the front desk. There’s a McDonalds on one side of the hotel and a café on the other side, both easy to walk to. OK breakfast, nothing special, waffles, pastries, bagels, hard boiled eggs. Only had powdered creamer. Small breakfast area, only about 4 small tables so if you are there during a busy time, be prepared to carry your breakfast back to your room. Overall a good stay, nothing exceptional either way and I’d stay here again.

  • Liked — Clean, comfortable with no unpleasant surprises
  • Disliked — No desk to work at
