My husband and I are regulars for Sunday breakfast at Wilma's Patio on Balboa Island. We're usually among the first people to arrive at 7 a.m., yet despite that early hour (on a Sunday!) the servers and staff are always cheerful. That's my favorite part about going to Wilmas. Eggs are eggs, but you can't beat Wilma's friendly service and relaxing atmosphere. Ask for Beth, the world's nicest server and try Pepe's latte.

On the main street on Balboa Island, Wilma's is a fixture for inexpensive dining. Very child friendly, and pet friendly, though there are only a few outdoor tables. Don't expect gourmet fare, just good old coffee shop menu. They serve alcohol. there's a children's menu and they're open till about 8:30pm in winter.

We went here for dinner. We were looking for something basic, and that's exactly what we got. The menu had a wide variety of sandwiches, salads and a few entrees. The prices were reasonable, the service was good, and the food was excellent. We enjoyed it.

We had read about Wilma's while staying at the Marriott Newport Coast Resort so when we visited Balboa Island we looked Wilma up. It was a small cafe tucked in along the main street running through Balboa Island. We were initially apprehensive about going in because it was not an "eye-catching" building but after getting inside we knew we were in for a treat. We were there for lunch but decided on Breakfast (served all day). Man, was it a good choice. Down home cooking, down home service, down home atmosphere. We felt more like being in the Texas Hill Country than in super sophisticated Balboa Island, California. If you are looking for great food in a home town setting be sure and stop in at Wilma's.

Service was terrible when I went. Food took a LONG time to arrive and when it did, it didn't even taste good. NOT a good quality on the food they cook here. I recommend this place to tourists and keep the good places a secret for us locals. Wilma's was very UNDERwhelming. Won't be back.
