“Nice and simple”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

We went here for dinner. We were looking for something basic, and that's exactly what we got. The menu had a wide variety of sandwiches, salads and a few entrees. The prices were reasonable, the service was good, and the food was excellent. We enjoyed it.

We had read about Wilma's while staying at the Marriott Newport Coast Resort so when we visited Balboa Island we looked Wilma up. It was a small cafe tucked in along the main street running through Balboa Island. We were initially apprehensive about going in because it was not an "eye-catching" building but after getting inside we knew we were in for a treat. We were there for lunch but decided on Breakfast (served all day). Man, was it a good choice. Down home cooking, down home service, down home atmosphere. We felt more like being in the Texas Hill Country than in super sophisticated Balboa Island, California. If you are looking for great food in a home town setting be sure and stop in at Wilma's.

“Nothing special”
Reviewed December 7, 2012

Service was terrible when I went. Food took a LONG time to arrive and when it did, it didn't even taste good. NOT a good quality on the food they cook here. I recommend this place to tourists and keep the good places a secret for us locals. Wilma's was very UNDERwhelming. Won't be back.

“Not so good”
Reviewed November 18, 2012 via mobile

Sorry Wilma's was there for breakfast and was very disappointed! I ordered a Bloody Mary and drank less than half
Of it. My omelette was dry and tasteless. My boyfriend ordered the crab omelette and ate just a few bites. The server notice we didn't eat much of our food and ask if everything was ok. We are not much to complain and gracefully said it was fine.
We spent over $53.00 and wow what a waste of money and calories.....sorry Wilma's but we will not be going back.

“Whats happened To Wilma's Patio”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

Many years ago when we discovered Wilma's Patio it was in another smaller location on Marine Avenue Balboa Island.
We used to really enjoy our hearty well cooked breakfasts, served by very friendly staff.
We returned on this trip and found the food very average. We both had eggs over easy with hash browns and toast. We love home cooked style breakfasts, but there was little evidence of that here. There was nothing wrong with the service we received here, but the family run restaurant vibe and experience has vanished (has the restaurant changed owners?)
I can only hope we visited on an off day.
