“Simple campground, amazing location!”
Reviewed March 25, 2011

My husband and I just returned from a great stay at Flamenco Beach Campground. After reading about the different designated areas within the campsite, we opted to stay in Zona E, which is the quiet zone. This area was surprisingly full when we arrived, so we didn't have a lot of options in terms of setting up our tent. Zonas A, B, C and D were practically empty when we arrived, but since we had heard about those areas getting noisy on the weekends, we remained in Zona E and were glad to have made that decision. People were extremely quiet and respectful throughout our stay there and when the weekend rolled around, the rest of the campground filled up with large groups of main islanders who were there to party, stay up late and have fun (we couldn't hear them from where we were, fortunately!).

The campground is very simple (outdoor showers, toilets but no sinks, although there are huge water tanks with spigots to use for washing dishes or brushing your teeth). The grounds people did a pretty good job of keeping the place clean. By far the best thing about it is the amazing location. Flamenco Beach is breathtaking- definitely the most beautiful beach on the island. Stepping out of your tent each morning and walking on to a white-sand beach is pretty unbeatable!

Assuming you're the hearty tent camping type person, there is no reason you wouldn't love this place. The beach is freaking gorgeous, and for $20 a night you get to call it your home. The campsites are in from the sand under a shady area with trees and bushes and whatnot to protect you from the wind and shade you from the sun. The campground is quite large, stretching along the beach, and they reserve the last zone furthest from the camp entrance for quiet people, so I cant imagine it being full enough to be noisy all the way out there, but I suppose its possible if it got really busy. During my stay it was clean, quiet and seemed very safe. I never worried about my stuff getting messed with. There's plenty of services at the camp entrance, but about 6 or 7 in the evening they all shut down, so after that point you are on your own for food or beer or whatever. Town is about a 20 min walk (some steep hills and the road can be dark at night) or 3$ cab ride away, though.
My only gripe would be that the showers are not private, and could be easily made so with a plastic tarp or plywood or something, but as it is they are all open air and face the main path through the campground, so I showered with my swim trunks on. Could be more of an issue for the ladies. Otherwise the facilities are as good as you could ask for from a campground. Flush toilets, many picnic tables, bbq pits, etc. Basically you're spending 20$ a night to enjoy a beautiful Carribean island where the hotels start at 100$ a night, so what's not to like?

My husband and I just came back from a 5 day camping trip to Flamenco Beach campground. We had a great time! I had read several reviews describing the campground as noisy, problems with showers etc. From Mon-Frid the campground was empty, there were only a few tents on site E, A_D had no one. We placed our tent on E, is the best site, you can place your tent at path entrances to the beach. Fir and Sat it became busier, since it was a long weekend, but it was never loud at site E. Most who arrived Fri and Sat stayed at sites A-D.

The toilets were always cleaned, they clean them twice a day. The showers sometimes are turned off, just go to the office and ask them to turn them on. We had water all the 5 days we were there. The temperature in April is perfect, water is warm, hot during the day, but not crazy hot like in july and aug and the nights were cool and we had a nice breeze from the ocean. I loved culebra.

Keep in mind that you flamenco beach campground, won't be as perfect as campground perhaps in the USVI or BVI. You will find garbage throughout the campground, which was sady and several visitors were upset.

Flamenco is a beautiful beach, if you do go to culebra, go to Culebrita for the day... it was awesome.
