Coffee in the morning with a serene view of the water, followed by spectacular sunsets viewed every afternoon; the deck outside our room was a vacation destination by itself! The setting is tranquil and restful, the sounds of the birds are the loudest noise that you likely hear(except occasionally, as mentioned elsewhere, little dog can be annoying)... Snorkeling right off the beach at the end of the walkway to the pool, is amongst the best in the whole of the Carribean!
The accomodations are a basic, and the mattreses are somewhat less than luxurious, but the rooms are very clean... Although not far from town, a rental Jeep from Carlos, right near the airport, is almost a neccessity. Guests are best to stock up on food, bottled water, etc, in town prior to arraival... The road to the site is steep and rough and a bit difficult to travel, but adds a remote quality to the location that makes it even more wonderful!
Tamarindo Estates is not a five, nor even four star resort, but it a very well managed facility, staffed by really terrific caretakers, that that provides an unique experience for travelers who are nature orientated. After our second, week-long stay there, my wife and I are planning a third.

Culebra is a paradise, is a place that changes you in a few days. I visited culebra first with my father on camping trips back in 70s. Back then there were very little accommodation options. Today, Tamarindo Estates is one of the best places to say offering air conditioning rooms with kitchen and a nice deck overlooking the ocean. The location is perfect as it set on a mountain side overlooking the ocean and smaller islands and within walking distance to tamarindo beach. Tamarindo estates is also very close to flamenco beach which is the main beach in culebra.

The staff is very friend and they took the time to describe the island and provided documents of what to do, where to eat and where to get supplies.

For the sixth year out of the last seven, we have rented two apartments at Tamarindo Estates during our children's spring break and would highly recommend it to those who value beautiful views, calm surroundings and the best (?!) snorkeling in the Caribbean. This year, the Tamarindo public beach nearby provided fantastic snorkeling with many, many turtles in various sizes, lots of stingrays and fantastic fishes in every possible size and color. The new caretakers were lovely and immediately provided whatever was needed. We often cook in our kitchen and enjoy the view from the terrace, the view has to be seen and I will look for a pic to post. We often think we should be trying a new place, but then in the fall our kids say: let's go back again. With the nearby Flamenco Beach, the drive to Zoni Beach, the usual dinner at Mamacita's and kayak rentals we might return again next year.As the kids will be off to college, we plan to invite my sister and brother in-law to join us instead. I can only think of one thing that could possibly be improved at this wonderful place; having wider beds, the nightstands should be tossed out and queen beds added. And with a new Mayor we hope the road will be improved, but this is the Caribbean at its sleepy best!

Take 5 minutes to check out the link to the website of the Tamarindo Estates. Very important information such as - make sure to buy groceries before coming, no food (either restaurant or grocery store) available within walking distance. I highly recommended that you rent a car or golf-cart from Carlos Jeep rentals would be extremely helpful. You could also call for taxi cabs who will drive you to town and playa flamenco for $5 per person. Our stay was absolutely magical. Can't wait to go back. Best snorkeling and private beach right there. Incredible. Comes highly recommended PROVIDED you make sure to read the website below and know what type of place you are booking.

The place was clean and well maintained. The view we had in # 302 was fantastic. The best snorkling we had on culebra was right down by the pool, which we also enjoyed. The cooking impliments were a little sparse and the air conditioner blew right on the bed making it impossible to sleep with it on, luckily we had a nice breeze and we were fine with it off. The owner lives 200 yards below the cottages and his yapping dog got a little anoying at times, he also had a bright light that ruined the beautiful moonlit nighttime view. We will be back.

Room Tip: great view and porch in 302

I am so glad to see Tamarindo getting the reviews it deserves. This is a very special place - you won’t find anything else like it on Culebra. No wonder people return here year after year! This was our first time, but we will be back.
When we arrived for a week in February, the place had been undergoing a process of rejuvenation. Everything was newly painted; repairs had been made; things looked fresh and clean. The new resident caretakers welcomed us and made us feel right at home. They were eager to accommodate our needs, and asked for our feedback. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed.
The three cottages on the “estate” are spread out on a hillside facing Luis Pena Cay and the mountains of Puerto Rico beyond. It is a beautiful natural setting: quiet and peaceful. The sunsets and starry skies at night are spectacular. Each cottage has three units with (mostly) covered decks facing the water. The units are simple, but clean and adequate for two people. The covered deck is spacious and comfortable, with table, chairs and a charcoal grill. The bed is a standard double, and there is no hot water except in the shower, (which was not a problem for us, but something to be aware of). There are no cooking supplies provided (except coffee filters), but we found plenty of provisions at the local grocery stores and cooked most of our meals, with occasional forays out for dinner.
The small freshwater pool down by the beach is a little oasis – a place to relax, read and cool off after a day in the sun and saltwater. Although the beach at Tamarindo is rough coral, and getting into the water at low tide takes some practice (there is one good spot at the north end by the pool), the snorkeling is incredible. Green turtles feed in the eelgrass just off the beach, and a colorful variety of reef fish make their home in the coral. There are several other good snorkeling spots, notably Carlos Rosario, and the wonderful sandy beach at Flamenco, very near by.
Tamarindo is not a resort and Culebra is not a resort island. For those like us, who avoid resorts and instead seek simple, unpretentious places to explore, swim, snorkel, walk, read and relax in beauty and tranquility, it was perfect! Thank you, Dennis and Gail, for your wonderful hospitality. Hope to see you next year!

Room Tip: There is currently no choice of units but they are all very similar. However some cottages have unit...

Thank you Jose, for your hositality. Your staff, Dennis,Gail,Teri, and Mark were very friendly, and helpful. We so enjoyed our stay with you on the "quiet side" of the island on your gated refuge. It is idealy located to the best beaches on the Island. Flemenco, Carlos Rosario, and Tamarindo are all with in a good walking distance. Though renting a car for your stay from Jerry's makes runs into town convienent. If you want to stay on the premises, the casual walk to the refreshing pool or to the private beach and marine reserve is just spectacular. The views of the water and sunsets from the patios/decks is one of the best in the Carribean.

Room Tip: All the rooms have great views, though if you are staying in the 101-106 group, choose up stairs for...
