“great value”

stayed here last yr and I totally forgot to write a review. I thought the place was basic and cute. had everything we needed, a clean bed, hot water, AC, and the TV even had cable and a DVD player. the restaurant was ok but I liked Dinghy Dock much better. also be on the lookout for all the iguanas hanging out. all in all, I’d definitely go back.

I stayed at this place in January 2006 and I just loved it. Don't expect too much from the friendly, yet aloof staff and prepare yourself for the occassional cold shower, but you'll hardly be dissappointed. The restaurant had lost its liquor license when I was there, but you were allowed to bring your own, which turned out to be a good thing as it kept the noise levels down at night (I heard the restaurant used to be one of the most happening bars on the island).
The rooms are cozy, the bathrooms are small and a little cramped, but the atmosphere is charming. Ask for canal-side room with a view of the water.

Three of us stayed in a suite. There was a separate bedroom in the back with a full bed. In the front near the door was another full bed. The bathroom was tiny was adequate. We had a minifridge in the front room and a shared balcony outside the front door, which was nice. The music from Mamacitas can be heard clearly in our apartment, but I believe it stopped around 11pm so there was no problem with that.

Positives:
- Cute place
- Great location… just a short walk to the ferry and the area where the publicos wait for riders
- The balcony was very nice to hang out on
- There was an AC unit in the back bedroom
- There was a dresser unit in the back bedroom where we could store and hang clothes.
- After we checked out, we were allowed to store our luggage in their little office until we left the island in the afternoon
- Easy access to the Mamacitas restaurant… the seafood dinner is AWESOME

Negatives:
- The windows had screens with shutterblinds over them… so they did NOT block out the horrible noise coming from outside. We had a really hard time sleeping because at 4am the roosters would be cockadoodle-doo-ing their heads off. It was LOUD.
- A few ants in the bathroom
- I got a lot of mosquito bites during my 2-night stay. But I’m not sure how many of the bites I received while physically at Mamacitas and how many I received elsewhere on the island.
- There was a TV but it did not work
- Rooms were on the small side

Bottom line: This place is good for budget travelers, but it is definitely not luxury. Bring earplugs to ward off the rooster sounds!

Mamacita's guest house in Culebra has only a few rooms, but they are all wonderful. We took the room/suite on the top floor and paid (as I recall) about $90 for one night. We had a view of the river, and out to both ends of the bay.

The best thing about Mamacita's is the restaurant and bar. When we arrived in Culebra it was Sunday afternoon, and we wanted a beer. Mamacita's didn't have a liquor licence, so we walked to Eden -- a very funky grocery store and deli just across the bridge. We stocked up on beer and rum, and then returned to Mamacita's -- in time to watch an NFL football playoff game on their flat screen big t.v. We then ate the Churassco steak at the restaurant... it was so good, we ate it again the second night we were in Culebra! Your eating options are limited on Culebra, so finding Mamacita's was great.
