El Batey is the spot on Culebra where locals and in-the-know tourists go, to eat some tasty seafood, salads, and chicken and beef dishes. The bar is well-stocked and usuallyhas Don Q Limon, THE BEST RUM IN THE WORLD. The bartender and cook are fast and friendly. The place is shady, clean and cool. Although the food is very tasty, it isn't expensive. We recommend it. It's breezy, right on the waterfront, and has a great view.

A local recommended this place for lunch and I am not sure why. I am a big fan of a quality Chinchorro (hole in the wall) but the service and food was terrible. Chicken sandwich took about 45 minutes and came without the fries. It was not appealing to the eye and the edges were underccooked. Pick a different spot to eat.

We didn't eat here as we arrived after 11PM. We arrived to watch two gay guys that completely stole the floor dancing. It was awesome to watch. El Batey is not a gay bar but I think the small gay population has no where else to go. We heard there are pretty much only two bars in town and everyone is either at one bar or the other.

The drinks were supper cheap. Even cheaper than the dive bar near my University in RIo Piedras. I paid 3 USD for coconut flavored Don Q and pinapple juice at El Batey

They played a variety of music from salsa, merenge, and bachata to popular music.

After a long day at the beach and biking around town. We stopped in to El Batey for some beers and ended up getting dinner. My husband and I had one of the best Mahi Mahi sandwiches we have ever had. It was a Sunday night and we were the only non locals in the bar. It was Kareoke night and we had a blast listening to everyone sing the latest salsa hits.

We ate here twice during our visit to Culebra. We happened to go to the island during their slow period so some of the other places to eat had closed for a few weeks but El Batey was a good local place that had both a local offering of foods every day and some really good burgers. It is right on the main strip so it's bit lively but a good place to give a shot.
