“Great Food”
Reviewed April 16, 2013

Don't let the outside appearance keep you away as Susie's had an unexpected upscale menu. The main dishes were prepared with an artisic flare which matched the quality of the food.

“Horrible Experience”
Reviewed April 10, 2013

If you love waiting an hour for your food, eating cold lobster, raw stake, and getting the police called because you complained twice about the poor food quality, Susie is the place to go.

Susie and her boyfriend Jacinto were quick to called their police friends and we had to leave to avoid being thrown in jailed because we complained. Horrible experience for our family.
BTW: We have know Susie for 10 years – disappointing to see this level of customer service.

“So friendly and btw, delicious food!!!!”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

Excellent dinner! I had emailed for a reservation, but was told during the busy pre-Easter week when we arrived that they did not have a record of it BUT it was no problem at all! So gracious and pleasant, they told us to give them a minute and we found a seat at the bar. The bartender was so nice, we decided to eat at the bar! The island mash, the calimari appetizer, the fish, my husband's steak...all were delicious! We will definitely go back!

“Always Excellent - Best Spot on Culebra”
Reviewed March 29, 2013

I generally get to Culebra for one blissful week per year. My spring break is always the ever-crazy "Semana Santa" (Holy Week - 1 week before the Easter Holiday) This is the week locals dread (even though they earn more in this one week...) and the crowds surge on this tiny island. Many local restaurants are just jammed and have been known to turn people away. The service often goes away with those people - except at Susie's!

I have eaten at Susie's upwards of 8 times over the last several years. The food is the most consistent on the island and by consistent I mean delicious. Her churrasco is excellent - always cooked perfectly - and the seafood is fresh and changes regularly (as it should). For appetizers I love her buenelas de bacalao (Codfish fritters) which come with a curry and horseradish sauce (try it - amazing!)

The best part about Susie's is that everyone, including the namesake owner and head chef, is so FRIENDLY and focused on customer service.

Let me tell you, Puerto Rico may be a beautiful island with gorgeous beaches but the customer service is often an afterthought. Susie's is a rare exception and a real bright spot. They could easily turn people away, especially during such a busy week, but they don't. They go out of their way to try to seat folks and get them fed. Tonight was no different.

It was very crowded but we took a table outside even though the threat of rain loomed. The staff put our table in a covered area and did the best they could during a windy and rainy dinner. Everyone was so apologetic because of the weather! They even gave us dessert on the house because of the slight wait in the kitchen!

We live in Washington DC, where customer service is abysmal and demand is just as high (relatively speaking) I can honestly say we've never been comped anything, let alone for something only mother nature can control.

To conclude, I only get 1 week in paradise per year. There is a reason I start my week with dinner at Susie's and end it the same way. The food, staff, and overall warmth from this restaurant is worth the trip. Can't wait to return.

“Agreed to be island's best”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

For Culebra this is considered an upscale restaurant. Although in an unlikely spot near a filling station along the canal and in a somewhat scruffy area, the restaurant is pleasant and comfortable, menu short but covers most expectations. Everything we had was good but the vanilla flan dessert needs big improvement. Very nice hosts. They will soon be opening a much larger restaurant and bar just out of town. To be continued.......
