Pros: This is a beautiful beach! The water on most days is amazingly clear. It is calm in the summer and full of very huge waves in the winter. You can swim, snorkel or surf depending on when you visit. It gets very crowded but there is always room somewhere along the beach. They have bathrooms, picnic tables, some shade, and plenty of food stands. Jetski rentals and banana boat rides. There is no fee to go in. The parking lot may charge a fee on certain days, but it is not a lot...I have been here several times, parked on the lot and never had to pay.
Cons: Some of the people are well....cafres...that is real ghetto! They tend for the most part to mind their business. They are there to have a good time and do not give a $&@T about anyone. With that said be ready to be surrounded by reggae-ton music, dancing, drinking, boats and jetski anchoring close to shore playing reggaeton really LOUD. Lots of trash....people eat and leave it there...there are the few who do cleanup after themselves...but then there are no park rangers or cleaning crew emptying the cans....it can feel at times like the worst of the Bronx, Brooklyn and Puerto Rico flocked to this beach. The parking lot fills quickly so you may need to park on the hill and walk down....the bathrooms are just plain disgusting....you can shower outside and pee in the ocean....seriously that is how gross the bathrooms are.
So you wonder why go to Crashboat (or as some call it Trashboat)? it really is beautiful... And picturesque, and the water is perfect...and really as ghetto as the crowd gets, they tend to mind their own....you can come here, sit near the water (if you sit on the left side of the beach, away from the food stands, it is quieter and more peaceful) and enjoy the beach...have a pincho, a $5 piña colada sold from a van by an older man (he fills them up with tons of rum), talk to a local seller who trains pelicans to dance...jump off the pier...snorkel with colorful fish....and enjoy this place...it truly is a must do if you are staying on this side of the island.
