We had a great time at the Florita. It is a beautiful and well maintained old historic building which luckily survived the earthquake relatively unharmed. We stayed in a delightful courtyard bedroom with a four-poster bed and Haitian artwork all over the walls. The service was extremely friendly and attentive. Definitely a 'must visit' place.

We stayed in this hotel for the carnival weekend in feb 2013. We were with 2 kids and 4 adults and had the rue de commerce suite. A beautiful suite at the second level of the hotel, in the front, with a beautiful balcony. The suite suites 6: it has 3 rooms, 2 big ones, and 1 small which is clearly intended for kids. All the beds have musquito nets, which you need here (don´t forget to bring repellent with DEET). The matrasses on the beds are a bit hard however. The balcony, with is charming rocking chairs, is perfect for morning coffee or late night drinks (when the kids are asleep). The service was good, the room was clean and we had enough clean towels. The restaurant was fine for breakfast (coffee, tea, fresh juice, toast, eggs, butter, jam etc), but for diner the choices are limited. When we were there, we could only choose between 2 kinds of plates; chicken and pork. We had both, they were simple but fine.
One important warning when you stay here with kids; at the parking/kitchen area, there is an empty well, that is a few meters deep, without a cover on it. Be aware your kids don´t play near this well!

Thanks for the Review. We are replacing or re-stuffing the cotton mattresses as they have gotten a bit hard.

We were traveling around Haiti just for fun (probably the only ones not with an NGO or some church/med group). We had the third floor suite and it was amazing. A few different beds of various sizes, all colonial style with good mosquito nets, and an absolutely epic balcony. The rest of the hotel was cool from a historical standpoint, with nice artwork and the atmosphere was great. However, I found the service to be poor and the restaurant downright laughable. The included breakfast was no more than some hot dog rolls and juice. And when we went for dinner, the only thing they had on the menu was goat. Goat is nice and all, but let's at least get some seafood considering we're on the ocean! And when I asked the man at the front desk where I could fix a flat tire, he simply shrugged, said "I don't know" and walked away. Then when another guy who "works" at the hotel offered to help me (I trusted him since he was from the hotel), he ended up screwing me over. This is the same guy that tries to charge people $20USD/person to go to Bassin Bleu (and that doesn't even include entrace fee, etc). What a joke! We drove there on our own, and gladly paid a local guide 600 gourde (plus 100/person) and had a good time. No need for additional guides.

All in all I don't know why this hotel is rated so highly. Maybe people just choose to overlook its many flaws because it is in a quaint building and the suite is awesome. But again, the breakfast was horrid, the dinner selection was nonexistant, and the service was subpar.

Room Tip: If you have a group, go for the third floor suite!

Spent some Christmas days at Hotel Florita, Jacmel. Perfect after slow and tideways lazy days on resorts. The hotel is a museum. If you can see the charm it will tell the history from the glorious days of coffee and money, to erthquakes and restore. Its double height celing, woodfloors, cast iron stairs and thick brick walls gives the perfect background for an semi urban holliday. Located in the midlle of the city, market, resturants and citylife is within 5 min walking-distance.
Great food, a bit expensive (but you can feed two persons pr serving), good drinks and friendly staff makes this a good place to stay. And if you worry about the mosquitos, go home. They where there first, use a repellent or book a flight home ;) If you want an expierience unlike others you go to Florita.

Room Tip: Remember that gardenrooms are quieter than those facing the street.

The facilities are nice, and the service is excellent. I enjoyed my stay thoroughly here, and was an excellent home base for going out and exploring Jacmel. The people at the hotel were helpful in providing the first-timer suggestions on important places to visit while there. Also, the place has a really cool, rustic, atmosphere.

I loved the colonial architecture of Florita and the food was amazing. I would recommend this hotel if you plan on being close the downtown Jacmel. Make sure you check out Chez Maud and Guy's Guest house for some inexpensive local food. The manager is a very friendly and helpful guy, but, I would appreciate if the manager could let the receptionist do her Job and not getting involve in everything, it could be annoying. Overall great stay

Room Tip: Bring insect repellent and turn off the light at night to avoid unwanted visit by Honey bees. Enjoy...

What a wonderful experience. Great live music, one block from ocean, clean rooms w great beds, safe, secure and well kept! A few days at Hotel Florita and I was back on my feet again. Haiti can be alot to take in depending on what your nature of business is. However just knowing great places like this. Really helps make the days brighter....I cant wait to go back just for the relaxation and charm this place has. Food was great as well as walking distance from some of the best places in Jacmel.

The finest house in Jacmel. Built in 1888 in "New Orleans" style. Furnished with antiques--art is everywhere. The best restaurant and bar in town--by far. Jacmel is the safest and most charming town in Haiti--and Haiti has always been the most interesting country in the Caribbean for sophisticated travelers. The Hotel Florita is the only 19th Century house that is as it still in daily use. It is an opportunity to see what life in Jacmel was like for the coffee merchants a hundred years ago. Jacmel was built on coffee--the cash crop of subsistence farmers in the mountains--and still has the best coffee anywhere. We now have a pool and will take you to any local beach--and pick you up as well. We arrange for you to get picked up at the airport--or exactly how to take local transportation to get here. We arrange excursions and do whatever we can to make your visit to Jacmel memorably pleasant. We have a large and comfortable restaurant and bar.
