“Do you go to Cuba for eat?”
Reviewed October 13, 2013

I have been to Cuba 12 times, four times in Playa Coco. The thing I liked most about this country was the cubans, the hospitality was awesome, not the food. If you like trip for food then stayed in Canada. Cuba is the most safe country in the word, it's possible you walk for every place all time, if you want dance Cuba is the country.
Playa Coco its a woderfull resort, the beach is't amazing, good for the children's. Animation team it's fantastic and very friendly. The room's is big, I prefer building 4 or 5, very clean.
The a la cart restaurant it's OK. The serve in the Italian is't amazing.
The new cigar bar is possible you enjoy a good Habano, and the bartender is,t very gentlemen. Thank Fidel for your helpful.
Thank you Playa Coco for every, I come back next year.

Room Tip: Pink or Yellow building

Cuba has been my favorite place for vacation because of its beaches and service. This time, I was a bit disappointment at this resort in more than a few things.

1st thing that spoiled my trip.- 300 local Cubans came to this resort for a convention, it felt like I was living in town, literally..a few times one would join our table during a family meal,..the strangest feeling of not knowing what to do or say. I'm not trying to sound offensive, it was like they were attacking the buffet and you couldn't even get to fill your own plate...even the ice cream bins were out of the freezer empty.

Beach - was beautiful, breathtaking BUT, this resort had rocks, and grass barrier before getting into the ocean ..many people did not write about this, so maybe take water shoes

Food- we all know cuba not the place to get a lavish meal, pork is not my thing and I'm not the picky type. BUT First night, all we got was FRIES, I'm serious, there was nothing else since the buffet was closed we were starving. Not even a sandwich. was on speggetii or bread ..the meats were hard enough to break teeth, and chicken was rarely there or had odd taste.

THE BUFFET was CLOSED one night after the local Cubans left. Can you believe that!?? It's true, we were limited to a small meal/menu at an la carte. Most facilities were closed no gym..only a bike. No beach grill...only fish sometimes.

The beer gardens ran out of fries and rarely had anything but pork burgers/hotdogs.

Beach grill- nothing really except fried fish... If it was open, you were lucky

Beach restaurant- only pork burgers.

Drinks..- horrible. Not even a real piña .they give it to you from a juice machine
Coffe- can't get coffee unless your in the lobby or at breakfast

Nightshows- basic, interactive audience ones. I was disappointed, the MC would call people losers.. Never seen that before, I even got offended.

Rooms- big, but showers do not work during the day, I'm serious. No water pressure in rooms or hot water. Same problem in all 6 rooms. And when mentioned to the front desk, they said the whole resort has no water in showers during the day, ,,??!! On the last day, was not even able to shower! The phones did not work, after many complaints, I gave up and just woke everyone up by knocking on their doors.

PIllar beach trip- worth it,

Staff- friendly to the most point. Osama, the guy that does your morning eggs tries to make your day, he's the only friendly person I came across, which is unusual. Most seems annoyed to serve you if you don't tip.

I've been to better resorts with better service... This was my third time to Cayo coco ...8th to varadero

Room Tip: Block 5000 is good location

Dear Farahl,
First of all I would like to say thank you for choosing our resort to spend your vacations and also for taking your time and write a honest comment about it, as you have stated. As you have said we had a Convention at the resort during that week and there were 120 locals out of 200 guests from the Convention, and they asked to be served in large tables at the buffet, but there were enough food for everybody at the hotel, no matter if the guests were from the Convention or not, not only there but also at the other places in which we offer food service. The buffet was close the following night because all the other guests had made their reservations for the a´la carte restaurants, so there were none left to open the buffet.
I will certainly let all the staff know every word you have written there, you can be sure that they treat every guest in a very similar way, no matter if they give tips or not, this is a matter that we double check everyday and we don´t have any complaints about it.
Once again, thank you for your words and for letting the world know your experiences.
Kind regards,
Midael Echemendía

I have been to Cuba 8 times now and this was my first time going to Cayo Coco. The thing I liked most about this hotel was the friendly staff. the really are top notch and make you feel like family. I even took a trip into moron with a staff member and had dinner with him and his wife. the hospitality was awesome. Special thanks to the entertainment, Mitchel and Micheal as well as the wonderful bartender at the pool named Tammy. Beautiful people, beautiful island. This is a nice quiet place to relax but not so good if you are into the city life of partying and chicas. If you are with a family or looking to chill then this is the place, if you are going with a few friends to party....not so much. Very clean and well maintained for Cuba and always had hot water...a big plus! Cheers!

This is my 36th time in Cuba and I have come to the conclusion, that no hotel or location in Cuba can give you absolutely everything! This hotel is at least 10 years old, and is being repaired on a daily basis. It is a 3 star, and not more! The many buildings of different colors, are reminiscent of three storey apartments with open balconies. The advantage over the neighbouring Memories Caribe, is it's quieter, has great ocean views and the beach is much wider, and peaceful. Although I prefer Cayo Santa Maria, this island (Cayo Coco), is 15 minutes, and not 1 1/2 hours from the airport. The grounds are nicely maintained, the staff is friendly and helpful. Aracely, in PR, will do everything she can to solve problems. The manager, Sr. Hiram Valle Simon is very approachable. Please give his staff, a chance to change your room, or satisfy a request. I asked to be moved to the third floor of the pink building (4000`s), and the pillows to be changed because they smelled of smoke. My 4312 room was perfect!
Now for the bad news.....FOOD! It's not great. There is basic buffet self-service with enough variety to assure your survival, but with little imagination, or creativity. If food is important to you, then definitely go next door to the Memories Caribe. The manager at Hotel Playa Coco is trying to upgrade the food offered, but due to the small attendance at this hotel, it`s a challenge. It was improving towards the end of my two week stay.
Would I return to this hotel, yes, because it`s easy to get to, I loved the peace and quiet, and the nice staff. Would I take the early night-morning flight...no!
Excursions have steadily gone up in price all over Cuba. If you`d like to get away from the hotel and see a little of Cuba, then take the trip to Moron, the closest town ( two hours way). I enjoyed my $5 open double-decker bus ride to Pilar beach for the day.
If you love to read, bring a stack of books because there was ONE book available. Also, brings lots of bug spray. All the three islands (cayos in Spanish), are surrounded by mangroves and small pools of water. Hotel Memories Caribe is especially buggy because it`s surrounded by water reserves!
There are two pool areas. The one near the blue building was deserted and had no bar nearby, but it was extremely peaceful.
If you like a crowd and a lot of action, choose the Memories Caribe. If however you want to relax, read, listen to your MP3, and snorkel off the beach, choose the Playa Coco. The choice is yours. www.resortmaps.com gives layouts of hotels all over the world.

Room Tip: best location for peace and quiet is the Pink..4000`s rooms on the third floor for the best ocean vi...

Stayed the week of September 13 through 20.
From start to finish it was an excellent vacation. I have been to over twenty resorts in Cuba and this was my favorite hands down.
The property is nicer than most 5 stars I have stayed at in Cuba. The lobby is gorgeous and the beach is to die for. The food is amazing and available 24hrs. Japanese restaurant is so much fun as is Fidel's cigar bar/restaurant in the evening.
Front desk check in and service (Dany) was prompt and professional.
Beer Garden is 24 hrs beer and tasty chicken/fish and chips. George is the bartender there and he is such an intelligent and kind gentleman.
The beach restaurant is awesome and the bar there makes excellent Mojitos and Bloody Marys.
The pool is great for both adults and kids and there is a swim-up bar and also volleyball every afternoon as well as games by the pool.
The entertainment staff (Moko,Michael,Karel,Junior et al) are the best and keep everyone laughing and having fun day and night.
There is a huge chess board by the main buffet and playing against the gardeners is quite a challenge as they are very good players.
The beach stretches for miles and is clean and flat.
Nighttime is so much fun also as the shows are a blast and the dancers are extremely talented. The disco afterwards is also amazing and there is also a pool table there.
The resort itself is so well placed-out that you are always within a three minute walk of anything that you may need.
I cannot say enough good things about this property and I had so much fun there and will be returning very soon.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Room Tip: Stayed in 5103 which was perfect. 4100 block is great too but a little further from the restaurants.

my 35th time in cuba first time in this hotel and i will be back, amazing staff, manager, beach all 5 stars, only down was the mosquitos, raining season i guess
People that have traveled to Cuba many times will understand this is by far the best i have seen in Cuba, maybe my luck but its the truth, from the smiling faces everywhere, to managers that are involved to a very helpful staff, all was excellent. like i said mosquitos were bad after a rain .
food for Cuban standard was excellent lots of variety lots of fish, and the pizza very good.
good for families,group of friends.
for snorkeling on the south side ( left looking at the ocean) of the beach about 50 feet you will find thousands of 12 species, schools of fish. enjoy

Room Tip: the 4101 building close the beach away from all noises
