Having returned a week ago from a two week honeymoon at the Cayo Coco I can honestly say I could have stayed there forever! First trip to Cuba and I was overwhelmed with how friendly the people were, from the maids to the gardeners (Felipe), from the waiting staff (Arley) to the chefs. But a special mention must gob the animation team. It was so refreshing to go somewhere where the idea behind the entertainment was not to drag half cut punters up on stage and humiliate them but actually put some thought and bags of effort into the nightly entertainment. A special mention has to go to Amilady and Meve(?) who were fanstastic. The entertainment during the day was also top notch, with no pressure to get involved if you just wanted to lie in the sun. However Samba lessons on the beach with Aylcia and Yanese are a must. Yanese really made the holiday for us, I have never come across such friendly person in my life and she will not be forgotten.
As for the standard thingd the food was excellent with freshly prepared and cooked options always available. It started to get slightly "samey" after about 10 days but when you are staying somewhere for 2 weeks there are only so many different foods they can offer. The A La carte restaurants for us were a little disappointing but they have excellent reviews from others so matbe just not to our taste. The rooms were clean and tidy, no sign of unwanted visitors and the complex itself was kept spotless. Yes it could do with a coat of paint here and there but when you see the wider Cuba it's nothing to worry about.
In summary I loved Cuba and will definetely return one day and when I do it will be to the melia Cayo Coco. If I could pick the hotel and staff up and move it around the world I would never stay anywhere else!!
