This was my 7th trip to Cuba and my first to Cayo Coco Feb 4-12. I chose the Iberostar Mojito for the price, proximity to the airport and tripadvisor reviews. The previous positive comments by others reflect for the most part my experience at this resort. You definitely know they are making every effort to make this resort top notch. There is an obvious emphasis on service and the staff were very friendly. There are a large number of "bosses" walking around the resort and I assume they are ensuring everything is satisfactory. The grounds are beautifully maintained thanks to Oswaldo and others. The rooms are spotless thanks to Tamara and her colleagues. Tamara made sure there was always water in the fridge and she left us beautiful towel sculptures every day. We had a room in building 19 which had a lovely view of the beach from the 3rd floor. The food was quite good with the best salad bar I have seen in Cuba. There is something for everyone. We ate at both the International and Gourmet restaurants which are actually in the same location with different menus. A wonderful pianist plays while you dine. The international menu was the best. We did not try the Italian because it was open air beside the stage and did not provide the same quiet ambiance. The buffet is inside, noisy and somewhat cafeteria-like; nonetheless, the staff were every attentive. There were lots of choices; the breads were excellent; great selection of fresh fruit, cheeses. I would have loved some live music during dinner at the buffet. The pizza from the snack bar was very good. The lobby bar was well stocked and the champagne, dubonnet, spanish coffees etc were a hit with me. I really enjoyed when there was live music in the lobby. As others have said, the nightly shows were very well done.
I don't have any complaints per se; however the property could be improved if the lagoon was cleaner and if the closed villas over the lagoon didnt seem quite so derelict. I would also suggest that an hour or so of daily effort picking up the plastic bags and cups from the edge of the water would make a positive difference.
In terms of comparing this resort to others, I would say that this resort tries harder to make a difference. The beaches are more beautiful and expansive at Cayo Santa Maria but you have to weigh the almost 2 hour drive from the airport against the 15 minute drive in Cayo Coco. From what I could see, the Mojito's beach was better than others.
I can certainly recommend this resort!
