Reviewed January 15, 2013

We have just booked another trip to Cuba - different location so we can see all of the island - and my review is almost a year old, sorry for the delay. We were there February 2012. Don't usually write reviews. All I can say is that the Laguna was a wonderful place for a vacation.

The bartenders fell over themselves to serve you - and that's without tipping - and somehow always remembered what you like to drink. The beach is to die for. We were all couples travelling together and in our late 40's ...... if you are a teenager or perhaps a young adult, you might not have enough "night life" at this location, but that's an easy fix - walk up the beach a little ways and visit one of the other resorts - we did ! They even served us although our bracelets were from La Laguna. The rooms were spotlessly cleaned every day and the staff was great wherever you went.

The beach is to die for, absolutely to die for. The grounds are well kept and all the buildings were clean. We found sometimes that around the pools in the afternoon, early evening that there wasn't any music - this year we are bringing our satellite radio and will provide our own tunes until the resort turns up the music !

You are not in Canada and the food isn't Canadian. We have been all over the Caribbean, and it's true - the Cubans don't have access to Heinz Ketchup or the condiments we are spoiled and used to. So bring your own ! Quit whining. The food might not be the greatest, but if you are adventurous or if you like seafood, there was different fish every day and enough food that you wouldn't go hungry. Tons of pasta, tons of chicken and lots of salads, breads, etc.

Make sure you venture out and find the Cigar Bar - we didn't find it until almost the last night ! Our loss ! It was so much fun that I wish we would have made the effort to find it the first night. Make sure going to the beach you take water shoes - only for the walkways heading there. In the middle of the afternoon, trust me, the wood gets warm and if you have tender tootsies, it'll be hot !

Another hint - for all the cranky people - Cuba doesn't have the nice soft toilet tissue we enjoy in Canada. So if you are whiny and that will bother you, bring your own ! We took a one hour trip into Moron one day - and were told the public washrooms don't always have toilet paper or you pay for it ! Okay, so prepare and take a package of kleenex in your purse ! No biggy ! The sights in Moron were worth it - horse-drawn carriages moving furniture, the old cars, the train station - lots of stuff to see and take pics of.

One other thing we missed out on and wished we hadn't - when you arrive at Laguna - you can meet with the travel rep and find out things about the resort, day trips, etc. We thought we were too smart and travel-wise for attending the meeting. WRONG ! If we would have gone, we would have found out - like others did - that you sign up and pay an extra $20 at the resort - and when you arrive at the Cuba airport to depart the country, you don't wait in the long lines in the heat and spend 45 - 60 minutes waiting to get into the airport. You get in a special line and go directly to a nice, air-conditioned room where there is free food and liquor. We missed out on that last time, but we won't this time for sure !

Have a great trip everyone and remember, you aren't in Canada - don't expect Canadian. If you do, then stay home !

This is the first time I have ever been to this resort and I loved it!

The food was pretty good and I love the fact that they have juice in the mornings. It is so fresh and yummy. The resort itself is beautiful, and they have activities daily such as dance lessons and volleyball games in the pool or on the beach. Which, by the way, is absolutely beautiful. The beach is perfect for relaxing and tanning, and you can get drinks there as well.
The shows at night were also very entertaining and the dancers are very sweet and kind!
The staff themselves are very kind and warming. I think that's one of the best things about this resort, everybody makes you feel right at home.
I will definitely be coming back, and I've heard that within the next year the place will look and be much better! I am very excited to return.

Just returned from a two-week Christmas/New Year's vacation at the newly renovated "Iberostar Mojito". Wonderful, sandy beach, safe for swimming with a beachside bar :) This was my first time to Cuba and found it to be very safe, the hotel staff incredibly friendly, and the ambience terrific. I'd recommend the main floor rooms as they have a walk-out patio. Rooms had BBC and CNN, along with movie stations for those interested. Awesome pools with a great swim-up bar - Axel and Alex do an amazing job keeping your thirst quenched! Loved playing cards before dinner at the Lobby Bar where Ramon makes the best Pina Coladas! Also loved having my hawaiian pizza at lunch with one of Felix's Rum Punches at La Sirena. Night shows were fun and entertaining and well-choreographed. Am missing the omelette station and my morning coffees served by Eileen. Other amazing, professional staff members included Ariel (Public Relations Manager), Noel (Public Relations), Jose, the receptionists, and our Sunwing Representative. I've travelled all over the world, and will definitely be back to this gem!

Just got back today and had an awesome time....they just reopened so there were not alot of people there. Food was great, beach was the best except it was really windy our last three days and couldn't stay on the beach plus was red flagged so not allowed to swim. Rooms were average but hey we never spent any time in there. Staff was awesome. I will be going back to this resort

Dear guests;
We really thank you for choosing our resort to spend your holidays and we appreciate that you have taken part of your precious time to write a review about your experiences with us in the past.

We also, would like to thank you for your lovely comments about our staff and our resort in general. It was a pity that you could not enjoy the beach during the last 3 days of your stay, but I’m sure you understand there’s nothing we can do in relation to mother nature’s whims. All we can suggest is try on a different week next time.

Once again, we thank you for your time and are looking forward to seeing you sometime in the near future to share and enjoy with the Iberostar Mojito’s team. We will not spare efforts to make your next visit always better than your previous one.

We just returned from the Iberostar Mojito a week ago, it was our second trip to Cuba in the past 10 years. During that time we've vacationed at an Iberostar resort every year from 5 star properties like the Paraiso Maya on the Mayan Riviera and the Rosehall Suites in Jamaica to 3.5 star properties like the Costa Dorada in DR as well.

Given the price and time of year of this vacation it was an excellent value. Here are some of the things to keep in mind if you're thinking about booking.

Iberostar
They may have taken over the property nearly a year ago but renovations were only done in the past 3 months. So it's starting to look like an Iberostar property but there is a lot more work to be done. After speaking with their G.M., Santiago Ortiz, he didn't arrive and start his job until the third week of December. So the Iberostar culture hasn't completely set in.

Food
It's decent, there's always something to eat. Only one restaurant was open during our stay. They did an excellent job on New Years Eve with a tasting menu then after dinner show in the amphitheater. My only issue was with the Pool snack bar, specifically the quality of the food and the handling - could be much better.

Rooms
Somewhat dated but good enough for our stay. No balconies which was my biggest gripe.

Beach
One of the best I've visited, including beaches in Asia, Caribbean, Hawaii and Europe. Definitely our biggest reason for choosing Cayo Coco.

Staff
Very kind and warm-hearted people.

Entertainment
When we were there it was limited to a nightly show which were pretty good. By the end of our trip the animation team was starting to organize activities daily. There was no kids club set up yet during our trip.

Overall, it was a great vacation for the price and it's always nice to getaway at Xmas. It wasn't the most luxurious resort we've been to but if you want an economical vacation that's on a fantastic beach, safe and great for the kids this is a great option.
