We have just arrived home from an amazing holiday at the sol cayococo. When we arrived were a little disappionted with the room the furniture was rather dated and really needed replacing, that said everything was spotless and in good working order,we really only use the room to sleep so decided to keep an open mind. So glad we did, the food was good and piping hot (the gravy in the beef stew was acctually bubbling!!!!) lots of chioce and lots of food stations where chefs cooked what food you asked for , would even cook the bacon at breakfast at the same time they did your eggs. The pancake lady at breakfast time was a star ,she fetched me honey when they ran out, and made lovely teddy bears from pancakes for the children, she certianly went the extra mile, thank you .All the bar staff were very friendly in all the bars ,but our favourite was the pool bar , they soon remembered what we drank and were always smileing and cheerfulland made us feel really welcome. The pool bar pizzas were to die for we had them most days, and were made in front of you ,so were always freash. The entertianment staff work really hard to put on different shows every night ,and to arrange entertianment for all ages during the day.We spoke to the general manager Lois many times around the complex, he was always friendly and was always about, and in the dineing room.the beach is beautiful with soft white sand and warm clear water. We visited the market useing the little train that runs from the hotel it is certainly worth a visit or two, has there are different stalls on different days. We also went on the open topped tour bus which also runs from the hotel, you can get on and off when you wish, we went to Pillar beach, this is a must ,the most beautiful beach that we have ever seen, with lots of colourful fish that swim close to the beach and the sea is so clear that you can see them without having to snorkle. So has you can tell we had a wonderful time and would recomend this hotel, THANK YOU TO ALL THE WONDERFUL STAFF FOR MAKING THIS A HOLLIDAY TO REMEMBER

Room Tip: We stayed in room 1101 ground floor ,quiet and close to all amenities, room nice and cool has the su...

We just got back from vacation at Sol Cayo Coco and it was great, great hotel, the room was great and alway's clean. The staff are friendly and curtious, never waiting for a tip, they were alway's there to get you what you needed and wanted. The room we had was in the renovated section,we had no bath but never had problem's with the shower, maybe a bit more water pressure from the shower woud have been good but you can't have everything in Cuba.We had a great view of the beach also.the food was good, great breakfast choices avalable for everyone.Dinner and supper were good. The beach was ok but we never got a low tide but like they told us that for them it's winter time so it's not as warm and a bit more windy than in the summer. We made lot's of friend with the staff, thank you Duanne for all you're great drink's you made me, you are also a good friend,i hope we see you again in the future.

Room Tip: Ask for the room's in the 2000 and 3000 sections. We had room 2216, great room and view ot the be...

This resort was very nice! It was clean, big spacious rooms with a nice view and helpful and friendly staff. We really enjoyed our stay there. This resort had lots to offer if you want to stay on the resort the entire time. Everyday there was staff that tried to engage people in fun activities and competition. There were nightly shows that were entertaining as well. If you want to walk outside the resort there isn't much to see other than the water but still a nice walk. We liked the food and there was variety every meal and they had a snack bar with good food that we often ate at for an entire meal. It only rained 1 day and it was still warm so we had fun running through the resort and the beach in the rain. We did the catamaran and jeep safari excursions and went to the cave night club. I would recommend all 3 to anyone! The jeep safari gives you the most bang for your buck and the activities were amazing! We saw flamingos, went hourseback riding, went to a crocodile farm, saw the city of Moron and Florencia so there was good balance between fun and culture. On top of which we drove the jeep the entire way! This resort was really nice! We would recommend it to anyone wanting to go to Cayo Coco.

Do not let any previous reports about the Sol keep you from going to this resort.
Just spent a week there and it was class "A" in every sense of the word. The staff go out of the way to make you feel welcome and part of their family.
The rooms, while a bit dated are clean and the AC works just fine. While some people say the resort is run down, they must have been at a different place because it is the exact opposite.
The buildings are not shabby or run down! You are in Cuba for God's sake so don't expect the resort to be a Sandals or the like. For the price you are paying, you are getting a great resort, good food for Cuba and excellent staff.
The grounds are tropical and the beach is to die for. Lots of wind and waves make for a great time in the surf.
Cayo Coco is well off the beaten track so any off island trips are quite long and really not worth it.
If you are looking for a beach vacation, this is the place for you. It is a great place to lay back and relax.
Would I go back? Yes, it was well worth it!

Room Tip: Room 2408 looks over the pool and ocean.

Beach excellent , Staff. Very friendly and helpful in most cases Didn't expect to be tipped all the time. Food. Breakfast. Best meal of the day, good choices, always hot. Lunch and dinner main buffet, poor. Salad buffet. Raw sprouts and runner beans, and cabbage. Never red tomatoes or fresh onion. Even I can grow red tomatoes outside in the north of England. Fruit bar, little bits of water melon, loads of grapefruit which a lot of people can't eat because of medication. Cheese and Sweet bar, very good. Yes you can have food specially cooked at the side. Though the person doing the cooking usually gave you the impression they were doing you a big favour. Unless you were young and spoke Spanish of course. Accommodation. Clean and maintained, better than six years ago. Safe and TC is an extra cost. That is still in the dark ages to me I'm afraid . Entertainment. More interested in entertaining themselves. The guy singing with the guitar two nights a week, was there six years ago, singing the same songs just as badly. Could do with an, Adults Bar Only. Like we had at the Hotel Verdi in the Holguin. Won't be coming back. Will miss some of the staff though. Good Luck, G R Thompson.

Room Tip: Overlooking the beach and miniature golf. Not ground floor, can get flooded. No lifts.

Dear Mr. Thompson,

Thanks for posting your comments on trip advisor. I have read with great attention and we will discuss with all heads of areas. For us it is a disappointment that there had a bad experience and we ask our sincere apologies. It is true we have had significant problems with suppliers, something as simple as the onion is not a budget problem, simply you were in paradise, far from civilization, a place to relax and forget the world
Every day we wanted to have a full salad bar, unfortunately is beyond our reach.
However all staff wishes there rested and enjoy one of the best beaches in the world in a haven of peace and tranquility. Hope to see you again and here and offer you more personalized treatment

Best regards from Cuba and Happy New Year 2014.

We stayed in the Sol Cayo Coco from 15th Nov until the 29th. We had a good holiday but it could have been much better. The accommodation is run down and needs updating. The building itself is falling apart and shabby.

Our room - Half the plugs in our room didn't work and when you tried to plug something into them the plug socket disappeared into the wall. When I turned the air conditioning off the cover fell off exposing the wires. The towels were dirty and had huge holes in them. One day we had them changed and got 2 hand towels back instead of bath towels. There was sand on the floor for days. You are supposed to get a bottle of water everyday. By the end of the holiday we were owed 4-5 bottles. The cleaner didn't do a very good job. The beds are so uncomfortable. The sheets are dirty and stained. The bathroom was disgusting. The shower was barely a dribble and the bath felt dirty and gritty under foot.

The hotel - it's falling apart. In the buffet restaurant there are huge holes in the celling which have been covered up by a white flat sheet which was drawing pinned up. The staff moved a plant pot into the middle of the room for you to trip over...it was collecting the drip from the celling. There was a big random black bin that was also collecting drips. We found it difficult to find a clean table with cutlery and glasses each day. Some staff would fill your glass up efficiently, others wouldn't. The gym is tiny with very old and limited equipment but it got very busy when we were there. The gardens are clean and look pretty. Be careful where you sunbathe. One day a coconut fell from the tree and almost hit a lady on the head. It would have done some serious damage so don't get too close. If you ask nicely and give them a tip the gardeners will fetch you a coconut for you to drink out of. It was beautiful.

The food - terrible!!! Bland and boring with no taste. There is no variety. It's the same each and every day. For all 3 meals. We like to enjoy good healthy food on holiday. Something we didn't get. The guys that cook your food like Maurice and Jorge were very good and very polite. But unfortunately they can only cook what they have which was normally plain chicken or fish. The fish was the best food to eat there as the chicken could be quite chewy. But it was just very boring everyday. Not 4* food at all. Our other issue was that staff get their food at the same time as the guests. They don't wait for us to eat first. One day there was a very rude woman who pushed in front of me. Turned out it was a member of staff. I think she worked in the restaurant.

Our rep Hector was lovely. Very helpful. We did the swimming with dolphins and the Havana coach trip both were very good excursions which we enjoyed. The Havana trip was a 7 hour coach journey but we stopped at Santa Clara on the way which broke the journey up. We stated in the National Hotel which was just beautiful. The accommodation was lovely and clean. The hotel was very interesting as it has lots of history. The food...finally we had some excellent food on out holiday. It was fresh and so tasty. We really enjoyed our 2 night stay in this hotel. Havana itself was nice to see but not what we expected. The country is very poor and deprived and I personally don't like to see things like that as it can be quite upsetting. We got driven round Havana in an old big American car which was brilliant. It's a must if you're in Havana.

The beach is just perfect. Especially the beach to the left, over the rock. It looks like a paradise.

Overall...neither of us want to go back to Sol Cayo Coco. There is nothing to do whatsoever when the weather is no good. There are no shops around. Nothing to walk to. This hotel is not a 4*. I've no idea why Thomas Cook do holidays there. It's a 2* at the best. It's a shame because some staff are very good and deserve to work in a hotel that's excellent. Our expectations of this holiday were not met. And it was such a shame as it's not a cheap place to visit. We will not be returning and will be ensuring people we speak to don't waste their time and money at this hotel.

Very out dated paint and furnishing - a few of the staff spoil for the others i.e.: expecting tipping - very poor towels arrangements - food and other activities are very good.......the Thomas Cook excursions were expensive.....after the TC rep pushing the VIP Lounge as it had limited places and charging 25 CUC - and being limited to maximum 1 hour in the lounge due to not being picked up until 14.35 and the flight was 16.35 - you can actually book and pay at the airport for the lounge at a cost of 18 CUC.. with a possibility of having 3 hours in it...if you get a taxi to the airport.......there are no coffee makers in the room you will be charged 5cuc per day - I enquired about an upgrade and was told 30 CUC for s superior or 45 CUC for a suite by customer services...we had a meeting with the manager who said the superior upgrade is only15 CUC...big difference!!!!! and you will get a coffee machine......and the manager was very apologetic about the wrongful information.
