We decided to escape UK at Christmas 2012, had a great time. The rooms were a little tired looking but clean, staff excellent, food ok, but the weather and beaches MAGNIFICENT crystal clear water and basically thats what we wanted. I dont think we would go back to Cayo Coco itself just a little too isolated its an Island just off the mainland and an 1 hour drive to get to the nearest town, not much going on there, interesting though.
We would go back to Cuba(people lovely)but nearer to Havana and do a city and beach resort hol, you can travel to the capital form Cayo but its a 7 hr drive. But on the whole great Xmas somethig a bit surreal about drinking Pina Colda on the beach Christmas day while watching Santa sailing by on a catamarran!! Just a final note there is a lagoon beach near the Sol looks like paradise but the Mosquito's there are nasty beware, they are not on the main beach though, and if you are a twitcher the bird life is wonderful.
