no probs with mozzies, food, cleanliness, etc. great beach, fine room, good hotel, excellent staff. if i had a crtitisism, the day time animation was limited and certainly wasnt much good for kids. just shooting in morning and a pool game or 2. no table tennis, darts, french boules, golf comps. or variety. that aside, it was a great holiday

Stayed at Sol Cayo Coco from February 17th-24th and traveled as a couple. We decided to come back to Cuba with relatively good expectations after reading that this resort was ranked 2nd in Cayo Coco. Considering we are normally not too picky travelers we thought we would be just fine and that the complainers on trip advisor were just being too picky. However we did keep in mind that this was Cuba and to not expect anything miraculous. Overall we thought the resort was good but unfortunately there were some definite negatives just too hard to overlook even for us.

Pros:

• 15-minute trip from the airport! Amazing after a long flight.

• The beach was absolutely amazing weather permitting obviously!

• The food was pretty good overall. We did not get sick at all and always found something half decent to eat in the buffet. After a week however the food did become very repetitive.

• The people working at this resort were for the most part extremely friendly. Very little pressure to tip compared to other resorts. However the workers at the cooking stations seemed for the most part irritated by the constant flow of people.

• Entertainment was surprisingly good. Evening entertainment started around 7 and went all the way to about 11 and was for the most part enjoyable!

• The resort itself is very small which meant we could be from our room to pretty much any part of the resort within about 3 minutes max.

• We noticed very little beggars or vendors on the beach area, which is common in other areas of Cuba or Mexico.

Cons:
• As most people on this website have mentioned, the rooms are in desperate need of a refreshing, we had pretty much the bare minimum in our room. We did not experience any holes or tears In the bed sheets however our shower towels had gross stains on them at least 4 of the 7 days. Our toilet and would not flush had to be repaired. Also make sure to place your dirty towels in the bath tub if you want them changed as well as placing the special card on the bead for a new set of sheets or the maid will just re make your bed without changing them. Our mini fridge was not functional let alone ever stocked which was not a big deal for us considering we are not soda or beer drinkers but for more picky guests this would have been unacceptable.

• Although clean the pools were extremely small and were blocked off from one and other compared to other resorts where the pools flow together. More of a nuisance however was the fact that due to the small size and lack of chairs, people would wake up extremely early just to reserve a chair by placing their towels or belongings on the chairs then disappearing for hours. This resulted in no poolside chairs being available after about 7:30am for the entire day, with most of them not even being used!

• The first day we arrived at about noon and were told there were no more beach towels available until the next day and we had to use our shower towels to lay on by the pool. Once again annoying but we survived.

• A la cart restaurants were pretty terrible and unlike other resorts the buffet was more exciting and had better quality food.

• Long lines at the cooking stations in the buffet area were annoying. On other resorts this is relatively common however sometimes at Sol it could take upwards of 20minutes in line to have your food finally ready.

Tips:

Bring a deck of cards for the evening. Although the entertainment starts early it normally consisted of singing in the lobby until about 9:30, nothing too exciting.

Bring a thermos. As many other people have stated, unless you stay within the lobby you are served drinks with extremely small plastic cups which are finished after about 2 or 3 sips.

Summary

At the end of the week with all things considered we definitely enjoyed our vacation. It was extremely relaxing and for us non-picky travelers we were not too bothered by the downsides of this resort. Would we necessarily go back to this resort? No. Sol management really needs to invest some money to give this hotel a refreshing as well as a new set of towels!

I think the main issue is not the resort itself it is the low Cuban standards compared to other destinations. With that being said we decided we would spend the extra money and not return to Cuba.

Room Tip: If you plan to sleep early try and get a room as far away from the lobby as possible. The lobby ente...

Dear guest,

We certainly appreciate your comments which really help us to improve our services in a better way. In fact, we would get the suggestions you’ve made as a way to please every client who comes to our resort to fulfill every single expectation. Our hotel is always working to give better services to our guests and though we must upgrade our rooms, our clients always remain enthusiastic at the time of choosing us as a holyday destination, mostly taking into account the quality of our workers and the amazing climate we have in Cuba. The laundry service is provided by another company, that is why sometimes takes a while to get the service on time which may cause some upsetting situations among the clients and we would love to apologize ourselves due to that fact. Our resort is full so, takes a little to get all guests in our buffet at the same time, but there are plenty of choices everywhere you go into the areas of our hotel.
We would love to invite you again to a place which always thinks about our guests as our primary concept. We ensure you the best holidays ever.
Best regards.

Could not fault this holiday. All the staff went out of their way to make it a holiday to remember. The food was top class and plenty of it I am a bit late writing this but we arrived back after 2 weeks on the 12 Feb..The 10 hour flight was worth it. The beach and gardens were well kept and I can understand why people from the other hotels used these. The waiters and gardeners were just like old friends, and my wife and I look forward to going back again.1 tip the electrics are the same as europe i.e. round pin and not like the USA and the voltage is 220v..
Definately value for money. Could not understand why the Canadians walked about with Thermo
mugs because the bar staff even came around the beach taking orders for drink and the gardeners came around offering fresh coconuts. Just go!

Room Tip: pay extra for sea view room

We only booked this holiday by chance because we found a cheap deal, so we were very pleasantly surprised by it all. The food was to die for, I specially loved the grilled steak and prawns which was cooked to your individual liking, and my daughters loved the pancakes and churros in the mornings. We had the best red wine we have ever had in an all all inclusive resort. We also loved the cofffee bar and the cocktails bar.The staff is very friendly and they make you feel really welcome. It was a very safe place for children, so we could just relax knowing theat our children were happy and well in the club or the pool. The rooms were very comfortable and had everything you can need, also very clean, and very good quality towels. The beauty of the beach is amazing with its white sand and beautiful turquose waters, we loved to see the pelicans, seaguls, red, yellow and blue crabs, and the different fishes in both the manglar and the beach. You could walk in the white beach for miles, I really miss our daily walks in the beach. We have recomended it to all our friends, relatives and work colleagues.

myself and my family have just come bk from here and can only praise it, all of us our very fussy eaters, we had no problems at all with the food not once, plenty of choices every night and breakfast and lunch, the staff everywhere were excellent polite and helpful always, we had clean towels every day, the entertainment in the hotel was excellent,we didnt attend every nite but when we did EXCELLENT!!, the one main thing that let it down was some nites drunken english people taking advantage of the alcohol, cocktail bar shut every nite at 10 even when we had 3 days of rain and even then the staff were very helpful, I cannot praise this hotel enough!! everyone moaning about the wear and tear, if you look at the time of year to go to Cuba its March to May, so the months like now they are doing the rooms up of which i saw alot of, and tidying things up around the Hotel, well i would deff go back

Room Tip: we had pools over looking the pool

Dear guest,
Thank you so much for your comments. We are in an island and weather could be variable, but we always have alternatives for rainy days. Our staff is not only polite or friendly; they also have the experience and the will to make our guests feel like home. We recently opened a new Beach-Bar with cocktails, refreshing drinks and a grill with fast food, so, everyone may find more variety of services to a hand. Hoping see you in a next time…
