We have never been to Cuba and were a bit apprehensive after reading negative reviews.
After visiting the resort I have to wonder if we stayed at the same place!

Our arrival and check in at the lobby went smoothly. Within 10 minutes we were in our ocean view room. The room was clean and the bathroom was lovely. Huge shower and always hot water, although the water pressure is low, as most hotels are.

The buffet was good, especially breakfast. Wide variety of food.
Coffee from the lobby bar was amazing. Our children loved the lemonade slushies as well.
None of us had any stomach issues at all.
Bottled water is served everywhere, as well as a large bottle left daily in room.
The gift shop carries almost everything you could need and the prices were very reasonable.

Lots of activities to do and our kids were never bored.
In the evening after supper we would sit in the lobby and listen to the entertainment, which varied through out the week. We had 2 magicians perform for us at our table and they were fantastic!
The evening shows are quite fun.
They have a game room open in the evenings with two wii's and a PS3.

There are a lot of birds everywhere, although we never had a problem with bird droppings on chairs etc, as some people have written.
In fact the hotel itself is clean and the grounds kept up beautifully.

The weather was lovely everyday, but very windy. Unfortunately the high winds kept the resort marina closed. The one beach was red flagged 5 out of 7 days. The other larger beach was fine and the wind made for some fun waves. The water on that beach is very shallow and great if you have children.
Also the wind kept away any flying insects. Our whole week we saw 1 mosquito. We never saw any bugs or creepy crawlers. And only one lizard much to the kids disappointment.
Never had an issue getting loungers or a hut on the beach. Always plenty of shade. The beaches are cleaned daily for seaweed.
The pool is well maintained and plenty of seating.

The staff is simply amazing. So friendly and respectful.
They genuinely seem to like everyone especially children. Every time my son got a drink he got a high five and the waitress at the buffet was fabulous with our daughter.
Blanca and Leanna at the buffet were so great. They kep the same table open for us the whole stay. These women were so warm and welcoming. On our last day the whole family got hugs and kisses from these great ladies and I now understand why people go back over and over again to the same resort.
I never felt uncomfortable or unsafe. Our 10 year old son was taking pictures one day and was wondering down the paths. We were looking for him and couldn't find him. A security guard saw him and sat with him making a grasshopper out of palm leaves until we came. It was so greatly appreciated.
If there is a child by themselves, no matter the age, staff are making sure they get back to a parent.

A couple of tips:

- if you wear glasses take glass wipes. The wind was so strong a couple of days my glasses were full of wet blowing sand.
- take your own beach towels. The cost of replacing a hotel towel was 10 cuc. Take your own and you don't have to worry.
- if you use sweetner instead of sugar for coffee etc, bring your own.
- make sure to buy some of the local artisans work. It is really wonderful.

The Sol is really a family or couples resort.
After the show ends at 10:30 in the evening it gets quiet. I believe they stop serving alcohol from 2 am - 7 am. Which is good for us with families but not so good for those who want to enjoy the night life.
We never saw any unruly drunk people or even heard much noise at all after 11 pm.
A very quiet, relaxing place to holiday.
Our family absolutely loved it and can not wait to book for next year!

Been there 5 times, this time have too issues. One resolved, one not; have to say both of them where simple to solve; men called manager I would even call him not a manager RUDI, have to say he broke my holiday in half, further going was for twenty minutes of an employ's time. Any way I hope I will get over that, and in the other hand I cant say bad review about hotel because one >>>>. Hotel is very good worth your money in every way, food is good and if you have to tip a cook so what if you go to restaurant in UK or Canada or every other country what is your tip?? so compere here where you have everything included so if you put one peso on the table for waiters waiter or bartender for 10 beers is it much?? I think not; those people want to serve you best so it should be a pleasure for you to give maid or other people a tip don't be like........
I'm going there every year with full bag of gifts ( not planing to be good) there are good friends and very good kids, those friends will do a lot for you, main thing I know they have heart open
not like we are. Went to home in Pina about hundred people did know any off them they became friends and we have BIG party. I was amazed; maybe they don't have big houses but main thing they got is a big heart for you me and all off them. That one night was one of the night when I have notice it is not counting what you have only how big is your hear. Hotel is good staff is very good, food like I have said is no problem. Price is right what else you can need
Going there in January 2014 for sure
what ealse can I say it is a good place.

well where to begin... this is not my first time at an all inclusive by any means and id have to say this is probably the worst one ive been too. Cayo Coco in general is a pretty quiet place, there's nothing much going on here at all and you defiantly do not get a real cuban experiences. il start of at the beginning and try to give as much detail as possible.

Check in - was pretty quick, we arrived at about 1pm and got our room right away. hotel staff were very friendly as cubans tend to be

Room - pretty terrible and i dont have very high standards, very outdated and run down. shower had no water pressure at all, the bathroom door was weird and i got locked in there for about 20 minutes, not sure what was going on with the lock... the mini fridge was never stocked with anything, empty every day, the maid left one bottle of water on the bathroom sink everyday, good luck getting any more then that. we tiped well and still didn't get water, towels, or anything else.

food - it wasn't TOO bad, ive had worse in varadero, but it is the same selection of things everyday for breakfast lunch and dinner, not much of a variety at all. the service in the resteraunt was fairly good, they were pretty attentive so i wont complain much about that. if you decide to go here id defiantly bring some condiments such as ketchup, hot sauce, etc. the snack bar made pizza and some sandwiches, they were ok. it was open from about 11am -5 everyday.

bars - pretty sad. there no swim up bar. just one bar at the pool off to the side. the drinks are not very good, ive had much better in dominican. the service was good. good luck getting any glass cups at the lobby bar, they seem to be few and far between. if you get one hold on to it. the staff at the lobby bar were pretty attentive as well. there is also a flair bar in the lobby but it was only open for a few hours a night.

entertainment - absolutely TERRIBLE , probably the absolute worst. there's no fun at this resort at all. they harass you to play the same games every single day. they have one CD they play at the pool on repeat all day, everyday. the entertainment at the lobby bar was the same band, same songs every night. the shows were short, and they only had about 4 of them so they would just start repeating. there's nothing much to do there at all. the disco was the same, same songs over and over, and no one was ever there. this is defiantly a resort for couples and families looking to sit around and do nothing and go to bed at 9.

it was probably the most boring and disappointing vacation. i couldn't wait to go home. i defiantly will not be returning to cayo coco. our towels got taken from our pool chairs one day, and if you don't return them at the end of the trip you have to pay 20 dollars per towel. we told the people at the towel hut that ours had gone missing, and sh refused to give us our slip back for check out and actually told us to go steal someone else s and return them...

if you are looking for a resort with sub par amenities, no fun, and a boring repetitive atmosphere, and you are happy with sitting in the lobby doing nothing at night, then this is the place for you. if not, spend the extra couple hundred bucks and go to dominican. you will not be dissapointed.

This was our first visit to an all inclusive resort, we were overall well pleased with the facilities yes it could be better probably but value for money .... Good. Recommended but we alternated days in with trips out we would have gone stir crazy if we did not get out and about. We would STRONGLY recommend that you book a two centre break and visit Havana for three days Nk visit to Cuba would be complete without visiting this world heritage site. Go relax and enjoy.

Cannot fault our Thomas Cook Rep Nora she was extremely good and was always happy to go the extra mile if needed.

Visit the Dolphinarium also in Cayo Coco brilliant value for money.

I just don't understand where these people were staying that have wrote bad reviews of this Resort! Just got back, Jan 4th to 11th. Amazing...people, food, facility and service! We have been to a few different places around the Caribbean and I will be going back to Sol Cayo Coco!

Facilities:
We checked in and asked for a second or third floor, no problem. We went to our rooms and turned on the a/c and went for a walk. The girls a/c didn't seem to work. Told the front desk and it was fixed in 20 mins. The bars and buffet all had something for everyone. We ate in the buffet in the morning and evening...lots of food and covered an wide variety....from meat lover to vegetarian! I found the food here better than a lot of places I have been. The service was amazing...going to miss Meylin and Yanitza...thank you ladies! Sorry didn't get the ladys name on evenings. We ate lunch at the Beach Bar...Yoe was amazing the food was perfect...best pizza and burgers.

Mornings we spent at the lobby bar having coffee....man I am going to miss that! Roli, you were awesome and always a smile. When the girls came down we would go for breakfast and then off to the 'east' beach. This is the beach with waves or you could go to the 'west' beach. We loved the surf and so went to east beach. We loved it. Yoel was amazing, a very genuine person.

We would go back to the room and clean up and go for dinner at the buffet. Again, great service and great food. We have all kinds of tastes and everyone found something. Some nights we would sit at the Snack Bar, girls would swim in the pool, other nights we went to the lobby.

We went on the Catamaran excursion and had great time. The dives were great and Pilar Beach was nice...although I wouldn't drive a hour just to sit on this beach. The food was very good and Beck's beer was nice and cold. The Crew was very nice and looked after everyone.

Overall this was the best trip we have taken. Now I am sure you could spend a lot more money and consider that trip better but what were you going here for? I was going to relax, have my family have a good time and that was accomplished. These people complaining about bird poop....really? We watched that staff every morning scrub all that furniture clean but then later in the day guests feed the birds and guess what....mess. The Staff was constantly cleaning..picking up peoples cups, straws etc. They always had a smile and a greeting...and not because you had tipped them. A boy went to the Snack bar for a plate of fries and walking back to his room he dropped them..three staff rushed over and helped him. They got him new fries, cleaned up the mess and walked him back to his room and he didn't tip them. So much for they only do things for tips. Yes you got better service when you were polite which a few people felt was asking too much. You would get the same level of service at home when you are rude.

We will be going back to this resort again. Great staff, great facility and great weather. We both have high stress jobs and this was exactly what we needed. The girls loved it and that helped us relax. Thank you to all the staff and especially to Yoel, Yoe, Meylin, Yanitza and Roli. A very big thank you to Rene Linares, our Hola Sun Rep. Always a warm reception and on top of everything.

Go to this resort if you want a relaxing holiday, great staff and wide choices for what you want to do. All they ask is some manners, as I am sure you expect at your job. Thank you Sol Cayo Coco.

Room Tip: We took rooms facing the ocean. High floor has the railings you can see thru...When we closed that d...

We have just returned from staying at the Sol from 28th December till 11th January, I will try and include everything so you have a good idea of the hotel, we have previously stayed twice at Cayo Coco ( different hotels) and are quite easily pleased! On arrival check in was very quick and first impressions was that it was a nice hotel slightly dated but ok.Room was clean and everything was in working order, maid was very good although there is no coffee making facility's so if like me you enjoy a coffee first thing take a travel kettle etc, .
We did not take any beach towels with us as they were provided by the hotel, we were unable to get any for the first 2 days of our stay as the laundry van had apparently broken down and was only able to change them twice during our stay as there was never any clean ones.
The beach at the hotel was for most of the time none existent as the tide was in the majority of the time, The "private" beech to the left of the hotel was stunning, The Guy who put the sunbeds out appeared to save the better sunbeds for the guest;s who tipped the most which was slightly annoying. I found it difficult to believe that the hotel did not provide any facility's on this beech, If you wanted to use the toilet or get a drink you had to walk back up to the hotel,
Buffet restaurant was ok, Standards of hygiene improved during our stay but i think that was down to the health inspectors that were walking around due to several cases of food poisoning, you could always find something to eat at breakfast, Fried/poached eggs , omelette, etc. had to queue for toaster but that happens at most hotels. Lunch and dinner were ok although you had to queue for long periods to get freshly prepared food ie stir fry or cooked meat which was off putting. They cooked majority of the meat on the same grill pan as the other meat and shell fish again off putting. Soup was good most days and the pasta station was good.I was surprised at the lack of fresh fruit & fruit juice some days there was only tinned fruit to choose from.We were lucky to have excellent staff for the evening meal Elvis and Jessica who were among the few staff that actually provided a great service with large smiles! Al a Carte was ok nothing spectacular but was nice to be waited on etc. Beech side restaurant - food was good although you were served by waitresses's who had their coats on. Pool snack bar - First visit was slightly alarming, food surfaces where filthy but this did improve, Pizza was ok there as long as you do not mind sharing with the many blackbirds and their droppings! Staff and guest's seemed to actively encourage the birds, Be careful were you sit.
We stayed over new year and the Gala evening was a sham, Hotel did 2 sittings at the restaurant and it was bedlam and disappointing, there was no where near enough seats for the entertainment and guest's had to bring the chairs from the pool to watch the show (after cleaning the bird droppings off) Not very well organised but the dancers were good.
Lobby bar most staff were friendly and very helpful although they did expect a tip which you do not mind for good service but some times it felt you had to tip to get any service at all, Some staff tried to charge for the imported drinks when others gave it with no questions asked. Evenings were very mundane you had the choice of either sitting at the lobby bar that had only 7 comfy sofa's/chairs or 40 odd hard chairs and lacked any atmosphere or sitting with the bird droppings at the pool bar which closed at 10pm.

This review has a lot of negatives, as i have said we have previously stayed twice at Cayo Coco and enjoyed it so much we have returned, unfortunately our stay at the Sol was so disappointing we shall not be returning. If you are looking to book to go to The Cayo's then choose a different hotel, Either the Melia or the iberostar and i am sure you will have a far better experience then we did on this visit.

Me and 3 friends have just returned from a week January 4-11 at the Sol Cayo Coco. Let me just start off by saying the people with the negative reviews were you staying at the same hotel? This hotel was by far the best 4 star I have stayed in. For the price of 850 all inclusive you are getting your money's worth.
Check in was fast and friendly.
The room was very nice, no problems with the water always had hot water, but when youre staying in 30 degree weather everyday you don't need hot water. We did have a problem with a puddle of water but that was promptly cleaned up when the cleaners were called. The room was cleaned everyday to perfection, maid service was excellent and they did their job with a smile.
The hotel is small, therefore there is not a lot of walking around to do everything is in a 2 minute walking distance.

Food and Drinks
The food at the buffet was always good. there was always something to find. Big shoutout to the delicious pasta bar and stirfry, also the banana crepes are to die for. The servers were impeccable. Always greeted you with a smile. Big shoutout to Mariano, friendliest server ever. We always sat in his section and he always tried to get us a seat there. The snack bar was where we had lunch everyday. Delicious pizza, tuna sandwiches, fries and burgers. big shoutout to Luis at the lobby bar, he made drinks for us everynight with a smile. All the drinks were really good, and also the Tiki bar drinks were amazing. Request the 7 year old rum.
The only negative about the food was that there was no 24 hour snack bar which kind of was a bad thing if you went to the club and wanted food at 2 am.

Entertainment was always on time, the dances were pretty good and the games were very funny.

The beaches were amazing, we stayed at the one on the left due to less wind being there. If you get the chance take a trip to pilar beach, 5 dollar bus ride that will take you to one of the most beautiful beaches ive been to. IF you dont want to drive for an hour with the bus you can take a taxi for 15-20 pesos.

The only complaint I have about this hotel is no 24 hour snack bar but that was so miniscule of a factor that everything else about the hotel overpowered it.
This hotel I would for sure recommend it to people. The workers try to make your stay the most enjoyable with their friendliness and great people skills.

We had a fantastic time and absoultely no complaints, absolutley none. I want to thank everyone at this hotel for making our trip a one to remember for life.
