“Wow what a fantastic holiday!!”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

We have just returned from the Sol Cayo Coco in Cuba (17 Dec - 31 Dec 2012). We did not know what to expect as this was our first time to Cuba and had read some of the reviews!!

All I can say is BOOK IT NOW!!! We had a brilliant time the Hotel was clean, the maid service was excellent and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent everything you could think of, cooked freshly as you wanted, fish, meat, pasta, bacon and eggs, omletes, need I go on. Of course there were things maybe not to your palet but that is the same anywhere.

We had a second floor room near the tennis courts overlooking the sea. The Rooms were a good size, lovely and clean with a fridge and TV, Bottles of water were supplied in your room, Air Con worked well. Some could of done with a little bit of painting but it really didnt matter thats just being picky.

The Pool area was always clean and well looked after, and the bar service was excellent from Diony. The Beaches are beautiful very clean and the sea is to die for, plenty of sunbeds. There is a beach bar serving drinks and snacks and also a beach restaurant.

We did a trip out to the Mangroves on a speed boat, saw how cigars were made, went on the steam train through the sugar plantations and had a little time for shopping (Cuba Experience) which was very good value for money.

The Staff are all really polite and helpful and yes you do need to tip - these people work exceptionally hard and deserve your tips (1 Pesos) goes a long way.

You can easily change money at the hotel and to be honest we didn't need much as our sole purpose was to relax for two weeks!!

We had a brilliant time it was really safe for the children and we would not think twice about going back next year which we are looking at booking this week.

Just a couple of things to remember is:

If you like chocolate take some with you as they do not really sell or have chocolate
Take plenty of Mosquito repellent and make sure you wear it!!
Take PlugIns for Mosquittos for room
Make sure you Tip (1 Pesos) goes a long way
If you smoke tobacco then get on plane on way out or take with you although straights are very cheap. Tobacco can also be purchased on way home in airport.

If you choose to go you will not be disappointed!!!!

The Hotel is set in beautiful surrondings We Upgraded to a nice sea view room and it was kept clean by efficient staff . The food was not up to the standard of the room the soup was ok if you put in the microwave to warm it to the right temperature in fact most of the food benefitted from this procedure. When we were on the coach we asked the rep about mosquitos she said .at that time of year there were .none having purchased on the plane mosquito repellant bands and taken loads of deet we were still badly bitten .another problem we encountered ,was several days of diarroea i went to see the doctor and was given a bottle of salts and charcoal tablets which cost 40 cuc to remedy a problem caused at the hotel which i thought a rip off.overall though we did enjoy Cuba

Room Tip: higher floors have sea views

first of all we had an amazing trip!
My Boyfriend and I vacationed there from Dec.23 2012- Dec. 30. It was my boyfriends first trip to Cuba and he loved it. and my second trip I also have nothing bad to say. The hotel staff is amazing, they are all so friendly and make you feel right at home. Duanne is an amazing bartender and and even more amazing person. Orlando always greats you with a smile, and we enjoyed having Oscar sit down and chat with us. The entertainment staff is energetic they put on great shows and love to get you involved.
The food Was good, a lot of variety, and always prepared to your liking.
The room was clean.
We went of the full day trip it is worth it. You get to visit two towns have a chance to learn about Cuban culture, visit a mango grove, a cigar factory and a alligator farm, you get a day full of Local Cuban cuisine music and shopping.
Beach and pool are clean.
It was a family resort but as a couple we thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone, we met amazing guests and staff and new friends.
We would like to thank everyone who made our trip amazing. We Will be back!!
Love Ria and John

Room Tip: We stayed in room 2235 It had an an ocean view, and a view of the mini putt course, it was beautiful

The room was clean and spacious with a wonderful view .The food was plentiful and very good . I especially loved eating outside on the varanda everyday. The entertainment was the best i have seen the 4x i have been to Cuba and enjoyed all the shows, and the Cuban musicians who played . The beach ,what can i say it was suberb. All the staff were wonderful and really want you to have a relaxing enjoyable stay . This place is a keeper . You will love it !

We enjoyed ourselves so much last year at the Sol we wanted to go back and this time took friends. We we not disappointed. To be remembered by staff members that you have not seen for a year is amazing. My husband & I work in the tourism industry and appreciate how hard this can be. I am happy to say we have some very lovely new friends.

The food is fresh and so many selections that you can always find something different to eat. I love the black beans and rice and I never knew how great Tilapia could taste until I had it fresh. The assortment of fresh baking and fruit tops off every meal. My husband loves the guava ice cream.

If you want your day to start with a smile, sit in the section served by Yanitza and Meylin, get Mikel to make you a delicious omelet. Then go see Luis to have coffee in the lobby bar. In the evening watch Duanne work his magic in the little bar hut by the terrace.
The staff are amazing and wonderful and work very, very, hard to make sure their guests have a wonderful time.

Take a day trip to Pillar beach. It is 5 pesos to get on the Hop On, Hop Off double decker bus and worth the trip. Take some pesos with you as a lounge chair is 2 pesos at Pillar and there is a lovely beach hut bar restaurant where you can have a lobster lunch for about 15 pesos I believe. The return trip in the afternoon takes you by all the hotels. Was fun to see where and what they all looked like.

Take the Espectacular tour. You go for a speed boat ride in the mangroves, see a cigar factory, take a biketaxi, outdoor music, tour Pauyet Artist studio (if you want amazing silver jewelry, this is the place), lunch and shopping in the open markets, then a tour of a sugar mill and a steam train ride. This is an all day trip and worth the money. WestJest charges 75 pesos for this trip.

I am happy to say we are going to book another week at the Sol in April just before we have to go back to work in the service industry. After spending time in Cuba and at the Sol I have a new found appreciation for the life and job I have.

Room Tip: Rooms on the second floor and overlooking the golf course are very nice and quiet.

This was a lovely hotel, rooms nice and clean, the staff were a joy, couldnt do enough to help, it was all inclusive and the food was plentiful, a choice of 3 restaurants plus places for snacks all day so you never got board of the food, you can even eat in their sister hotels, the kids club was great and looked after our little boy very well, my only complaint is that the hotels in the cayos are no where near anything so you have to either stay in the hotel or pay to go on trips which we did but it isnt cheap so it used more of our holiday budget than we had planned, some people on here have said the staff always wanted tipping, we didnt find this to be the case, sometimes we tipped them but not every day, but wether we did or not they were always happy and smiling, and couldnt help enough

Room Tip: Try to get a sea view as the pool view is a bit noisy with music all day, if you get a pool view the...

Dear guest,

We're really happy that you and your family enjoyed your stay at Sol Cayo Coco; which is great to relax and spend a good time among friends. It's totally right what you said about places to go, because this resort is located in Cayo Coco, 65 Km. from the nearest town, but there are several tours that offer you the option to get in touch with nautical activities, nature, culture and local atractives, so, they really worth each peso. Also, if you book us you can visit other hotels of Meliá, like Tryp Cayo Coco y Sol Cayo Guillermo. You'll never be bored.
