We stayed at Memories Flamenco the week of Jan. 26 to Feb. 2, 2013.
Check in: Check in on the bus helped us avoid the line up at the front desk.
Beach: We thought it was nice and did not find the rocks to be an issue. The wait time for a burger or dog is extremely long.
Pool: We spent most of our time lounging around the lower pool. Finding a chair was never a problem. The pool bar staff were friendly and quick to serve you. The pool was cool most days and I’m sure it would have been warmer had it not been cloudy most of the week. We didn’t care for the guy working at the pool that helps you find a chair.
There was a guest there celebrating her birthday and had obviously had a few to many. The pool guy spent his entire afternoon following her. He should have been looking out for her not putting his hand on her in places they shouldn’t have been. We reported it to the assistant manager who agreed with us and spoke to him. We personally felt a talk was not the appropriate deterrent for this kind of behavior in the service industry. If he is still employed there ladies be very careful around the chair guy.
The entertainment staff did a great job getting people involved. I participated but my wife didn’t.
Our room: We were in block 6 on the 3rd floor. It was very nice room. There was never a problem with noise from people in the hallway. We found the King Size bed very comfortable and both slept well on it. Our mini fridge wasn’t working when we arrived how ever a quick check found it had been unplugged, worked well after that. It was to be stocked daily however the first couple of days it was hit and miss. Showing up at 7:00pm to do this is too late. After talking with the two workers responsible for this I found out if I paid them twenty Paso’s they would put extra beer in the fridge. Somehow I pretty sure it’s not the way it’s to work but the only way to get the beer.
Having room towels also presented a problem. First two days no bath towels. Trying to speak with the girl cleaning the room was nearly impossible as she wouldn’t or couldn’t speak English. When I finally offered her money she brought two orange towels for the bathroom, apparently money is the international language. Two days later she took the towels back and we got proper bath towels. The following day the used towels from the floor were hung back up for us to use. After a conversation with the person inspecting the rooms we received clean ones. The air conditioner worked good We never had any problems with toilet paper or exchanging swim towels.
Buffet: We at all our meals at the Buffets. With all the reviews commenting on food temperature I can’t understand why they continue to say the will pass this on to correct it and after almost a year it is still not fixed. For breakfast my wife enjoyed the omelet station as she quickly realized that fresh made omelets were hot. Some days they would have hash browns and bacon some days they wouldn't. Loved the orange juice. For lunch and super the fish and pasta were always good. You may want to check the yogurt containers as we have never eaten yogurt that was the same consistency as milk.
We always found a table and were always asked what we would like to drink. We were always able to find something to eat and did not go hungry.
Snack Bar: Tried the three minute pizza and enjoyed it.
Ala Carts: Never attended as we didn’t hear good comments and booking times were too late.
Bars: Had good service at the lobby bar. Was a little confused as to why smoking was allowed in there until Friday then the staff informed us it was a closed area and there was no more smoking allowed?
Entertainment: We went to The Michael Jackson Show was very impressed.
Staff: We had positive experiences with all the staff with the exception of as mentioned the woman cleaning our room and the pool guy. They seemed to be happy and we were grateful for their service.
OVERALL: We had a good time and were able to escape the cold of winter for a week. Won’t be back if review concerns don’t effect changes and the pool guy is still there. Hoping Memories Flamenco Administration start making suggested improvements instead of just passing them on with no changes occurring. In the years to come only you can choose what you want the resort to be.
