White Bay Villas (Sunset west) was great! It had a beautiful view from the porch/double doors from the room. The beach is beautiful, and the beach bars there are perfect for an afternoon cocktail and sitting on the beach. The resort is definitely "no frills", but if you like that, this is your place. There's no pool/restaurant/room service. But we ordered food from the provisioners on Tortola and had it delivered to our room to cook for ourselves (and save a bunch of $$).
The staff was very helpful when asked, and almost invisible when not needed. Thad was especially helpful, finding us a water taxi over from Tortola after the last ferry left (not to mention it was the last night of Carnival). We did have to pay $150 for it, but that was out of his control. My advice would be to leave extra time to get to the ferry. One ferry from Charlotte Amelie on St Thomas apparently didn't run that day (though we had confirmed the day before), so we went to Red Hook to get another one to West End, Tortola. The Red Hook one was delayed, causing us to miss the ferry to Jost. We got in touch with Thad who found a driver willing to take us over, and Thad came to the dock to get us himself. It wasn't ideal, but he made the best of it for us.

The island itself is very quiet, and there aren't a lot of activities. We hiked out to the "Bubbly Pool", did some snorkeling/swimming and we frequented a couple of the beach bars. Other than that, we mostly read. We did take a daylong boat trip to the Baths in Virgin Gorda (and a couple stops along the way). We went with a local guy which was interesting to hear a little about local culture, though might have been better to do the official tour with Jost Scuba to hear about the geology/oceanography/wildlife and such (but I'm a science nerd, so whatever works). Also an expensive trip, but probably worth it.

My wife and I just returned from Sunset Villa East, where we celebrated our 17th. anniversary.
The villa was perfect, everything we needed, grill, full kitchen, beach towels, awesome deck!
The view from the deck was second to none. Walking to the beach was a healthy hike, not as
bad as a lot of reviews..We walked to Soggy Dollar Bar 9 days straight. White bay beach is a
perfect place to relax and watch the boats come and go. A tip for people coming to Jost via
St. Thomas , book a private water taxi, it makes the trip over much more smooth. ( we used Dolphin water taxi) Sunset Villa was very clean, great fridge- very cold!!, Can't wait to return.

My sister and I stayed at White bay Villas (Coconut Villa) from 20SEP2012 through 24SEP2012. This was our first trip to any of the Virgin Islands (US or British) and Jost Van Dyke. We booked our vacation through Living Social (which included a jeep rental). We had arranged to have Bobby’s provisioning service in Tortola to deliver our food to the villa (well worth the extra money after a long day of traveling). The villas are nice, albeit a little outdated, but nevertheless nice (and clean). The kitchens are well-equipped and the view from the patio is AMAZING, since each villa sits on the hillside overlooking the most beautiful beach (White Bay). The only negative point to the villa is that only the bedroom has A/C (a wall unit). Because the island is so hilly and steep, a jeep rental is essential. There’s no other way to get around the island (other than by foot). Since we travelled to Jost Van Dyke in September (and the staff at White Bay Villas only told us that September was SLOW season, not DEAD season in terms of restaurants, tour operators, etc.), all of the popular restaurants and bars were CLOSED. I’ve been to the Caribbean in slow season (summer months in USA), and not much is different. The only good thing about going to Jost Van Dyke in September was that we had the beach pretty much to ourselves. I would strongly suggest not to visit the island in September because the whole island pretty much shuts DOWN (once we were there, we learned that the locals take vacation for the whole month of September in preparation for the busy season of October through March). If you’re looking for a party atmosphere, you will be very disappointed if you visit Jost Van Dyke in September. We were lucky enough to have Dave take us out in his dinghy for an excursion (to the Bubbly Pool, Little Cay, etc.). We were very disappointed that we didn’t get to experience Foxy’s or any of the other popular places on the island that we heard so many good things about. All in all, the island is beautiful and quiet (no resorts, shopping, or fast food here). White Bay beach is absolutely stunning. The water is crystal blue… absolutely gorgeous. You have to see it for yourself to appreciate the beauty of the island. I really can’t find enough adjectives to describe the island…it’s just that beautiful. It’s the perfect place for a much-needed getaway from the hustle and bustle of work and everyday stresses. I wish I could have bottled it up and bring it back home with me! Just lay back and enjoy your carefree days on Jost Van Dyke!!

Room Tip: Unfortunately, unless you have lots of money to spend on a water taxi, the only way to get to Jost V...

Loved WBVillas. Stayed in Tamarind Cootage. Awesome views and sounds! Breakfast and cocktails on the porch each day. Cottage equiped with anything you could need ( except a hammock), well stocked kitchen, very comfortable bed. Spotlessly clean ( I'm very particular).
Helpful and friendly staff.
Beach fabulous.
Hope to come back next year.

Room Tip: Room was hot for sleeping, we were there in August, AC really didn't cool and no breezes in the...

We stayed at the White Bay Villa's Plantation Villa House (up to 4 bedrooms) at the end of June. It was amazing! Jost Van Dyke is beautiful and quiet (no resorts, shopping, or fast food here) and the White Bay Villas was the perfect property. The villas are set on the hill overlooking the most beautiful beach (White Bay) with amazing views and island breezes. The villas have everything you need and are comfortable and very clean. We were just one couple traveling, but opted to reserve the Master Bedroom in the Plantation Villa House because all of the other smaller villas were booked at the time we wanted to travel. We knew that we could be sharing the house with others (all of the other villas are private), but we ended up having the entire 3,000+ sq ft home to ourselves for the entire week. What a bonus! The entire staff will welcome you like family: from Bonnie (who takes your reservation) to Thad (who welcomes you when you get there)! We can't wait to stay at White Bay Villas again.

Some tips for JVD and White Bay Villas: 1. Come with a laid back attitude and you will love it. This is not the Ritz-Carlton and there is nothing 5-star about this island except the people, their attitude, and the beautiful beaches. 2. The walk down to the beach and town is absolutely do-able- it is the walk back that is a killer (all up-hill and hot). You really should rent a jeep. We didn't but wished we did. 3. Yes, there are mosquitos and sand fleas. I got bitten alive, my husband didn't. Bring good bug spray with deet if you are the type of person that bugs love to eat. 4. I packed so many clothes that I didn't need. You need bathing suits and maybe a few t-shirts and shorts for eating dinner in town. 5. Use Bobby's provisioning service in Tortola to preorder food and have your kitchen stocked with items for breakfast, snacks, lunch/dinner, and DRINKS! (Much cheaper than buying them at the bar!) 6. Walk down (or drive down) the beach and have a few Painkillers at the Soggy Dollar Bar (and all the other great beach bars/restaurants), find a seat, and enjoy your carefree days!

Room Tip: You can walk to the beach from the Seaside Cottages, Plantation Villa House, and Sunset East or West...

Went with friends and family in July for 4 days and had an amazing time. The location was breath taking! It was a nice, quiet, relaxing getaway. We really enjoyed being able to walk down the path to the beach. Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay!
