“10 minutes and centuries away from the city”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2012

Just 10 minutes from downtown Quebec and across from Montmorncy Falls, cross the Ile D'Orleans suspension bridge. The road around the island only takes an hour to completly circle. When you cross the bridge, go right toward St-Petronille at the tip of the island. Stop by the Chocolaterie de Ile d'Orleans (on the left) for awsome chocolates. Then go a block or so and go right on the Rue Horatio Walker for amazing views. Turn around then go right to Rue du Quai for more views. Continue around the Chemin Royal and you will pass several villages with lovely old churchs right along the river. Apple orchards are everywhere. The southern side of the island next to the main channel of the St Lawrence (side away from bridge) is more scenic with old churches while the northern side is more farms with the mountains on the mainland in the distance. A great afternoon trip to the falls and island. Don't forget your chocolates.

“Ile d'Orleans - Le tour de l'île”

Félix Leclerc was right when he wrote his song (Le tour de l'Île) - 42 miles of quiet living - well worth the drive from Quebec City. Don't miss it.

“Charming country road with lots of food stops”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2012

We just spent a pleasant half day driving around on Ile d'Orleans along Chemin Royal. The road is good and not too busy even on a later summer day. There are many small villages to explore and farm stand around the entire island selling fresh local fruit and vegetables, cheese, jams, syrup, chocolate, etc. There several look-out spots that are perfect for a picnic.

The road is good for cycling, although the shoulder is narrow.

The entire 73 km island is a paradise! Quiet, clean, peaceful, great air quality. A foodies delight-loads of places to stop & taste-ciders,wine,cassis,maple syrup, breads, cheese.Spent 5 hours touring entire island, stopping at all the family owned farms. Picked blueberries the size of nickels! Only 20 km from Quebec city & easy to get to,a nice change from tons of tourists!!!!!!!!!!!

“Ile de Orleans”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 24, 2012

What a most beautiful island!! A paradise to my family and me! Great history and beautiful views and scenery!!! We will be going back here. A quiet place with centuries of history and agriculture. The views of the St. Lawrence are spectacular. You gain access by a single bridge and can see for miles up and down river. Ships take passage on the southern side where the channel is and the bridge is on the north side. Quaint villages with churches from the 1700's. Fresh produce abounds! The residents are friendly and very helpful. We want to retire here!!!
