“Excellent Restaurant”
Reviewed October 20, 2011

The Inn's restaurant is second to none. The food here is quite lovely and a real fine dining find in the middle of the National Park. The menu has something for everyone, including vegetarian fare. The food features creative recipes with an emphasize on what is fresh and can be procured locally. The wine list is superb and impressively extensive and owner/chef, Vince, is quite knowledgeable and will happily make wine pairing suggestions for your meal.
The Sugar Hill Inn also has a gourmet food store in which you can purchase just a few of the fine ingredients which makes the dining experience here so worth while.

Very nice property located in Gros Morne National Park. We had the small cabin number 11. It was well appointed but a bit small. Service was excellant. The Inn provides a very good breakfast as part of the price and has a very good restaurant, which we recommend for a fine dining experience. The indoor hot tub was a bit diferent than we are used to coming from out west where most people's tubs are outdoors. The free laundry was a very nice touch, especially in a climate that can be quite wet.

We were concerned when we arrived because much of the outside of the building is in need of a coat of paint and there are no welcoming signs indicating that the building is in fact the Sugar Hill Inn. Inside the hotel, it is clean and modern and we experienced a very friendly and helpful reception. All the facilities are first class and our room was well appointed, comfortable and quiet. Because it was a Sunday in September the restaurant was closed for dinner, but we found the breakfasts were very good. We would recommend this hotel.

Gros Morne National Park, Nfdl., lives up to its reputation as a gorgeous place to visit. So does this hotel's advertising!
We spent our first day in the park hiking up the mountain trail to the lookout behind the Information Centre, a very steep, rocky path not well suited for two people in their 60s unaccustomed to such exercise. It was worth the effort, but the 3 hours up and down left us trembling with exertion, grubby and hungry.

Imagine our delight, then, when we arrived at our hotel to find not only a large, beautiful room waiting for us, appointed with every conceivable amenity, but a great hot tub in the basement to soak our aching limbs! Feeling much better, we then popped our travel-weary clothes into the free laundry and drier facilities; it was wonderful to be able to refresh the contents of our suitcases for the rest of our trip.

Clean and rested, we were able to enjoy the outstanding cuisine in the dining room; we had a gourmet dinner as delicious as any we've enjoyed anywhere. Innovative dishes, beautifully presented, arrived after a treat of a gratuitous amuse-bouche from the kitchen. The wine list featured Maritime wines to try, and offered as either appetizer or dessert there was a selection of artisan cheeses from Quebec, a pleasant change from sweets. Selecting our main course was made easier by knowing we were booked in the Inn for another night on our return; we could have our second choices then (and did).
Newfoundland folk songs played quietly, and the view out the windows was of rolling green mountains and the setting sun. Mmmmm.
Our night was wonderful too, in a comfortable bed with the most marvelous duvet. We hated to leave, but the excellent breakfast, which included warm berry muffins and a terrific fresh fruit salad, sent us very happily on our way. PS: our return stay was every bit as nice; this time we enjoyed the privacy of the small guest cabin.

Room Tip: For privacy we recommend the cabin. For convenience, easier access to the facilities, and more floor...

This place is up on the hill and nowhere near any water. There was a view of the Pharmachoice and some trees, with the sound of the road and people walking above. Breakfast was continental with a choice to pay $5 for oatmeal or $10 for a cheese omelet. We paid $210 per night without tax. One would think an egg could be included. I would stay in Rocky Harbour in a cabin before I would stay here again.

We are sorry our Inn did not live up to the expectations of these guests.

We do not advertize that we are on the water, however you can see the water from several rooms on the south end of the building. The suite that these guests stayed in has one regular sized window that looks out on the Pharmachoice, as stated, but it also has three large picture windows with a panoramic view of the mountains and the valley leading into Norris Point. This is one of our nicest and most spacious rooms and is priced accordingly.

The complimentary breakfast that is included in our room rate includes fresh muffins, fresh fruit salad, yogurt, selection of cereals, locally made wholegrain bread, our own wild berry preserves, organic almond butter, selection of oatmeal packets, tea, coffee and juice. Most of our guests comment quite favorably on it.

It should be noted as well that included in the price of the room are such things as free wireless internet, access to a guest computer for those who do not bring their own, use of our hot tub, complementary guest laundry facilities, access to our common areas and dining room plus many more extras. Perhaps these guests should have stayed in a cabin in Rocky Harbour if they were looking for a cheaper place to stay, but that would have been a different type of experience from what we offer.

My husband and I stayed 2 nights at the Sugar Hill Inn in July 2011 and it was amazing. There was attention to every detail, very clean, wonderful staff which made you feel welcome. Fine dining with the best tasting steak in my life, and the wine list certainly compliments the dining. Our favorite waitress Nina, will be sure to make your dining a pleasure. Don't forget to visit the relaxing hot tub before you hit the comfortable bed at night.. Thanks Vince & Marina (owners) for our welcoming stay, Debbie from Halifax.

The service and quality of the room was well above average. The staff were friendly, informed and helpful. We also enjoyed suppers in the Inn's restaurant with special daily fish dishes a particular delight. The wine list was good too. We were in the area on a 'second' honeymoon and choice this inn due to its convenient location. We were welcomed and made to feel at home including a gift cocktail on our first night in the restaurant. Highly recommended to all ages as there were kids and older folk (than us) there in a pleasant mix.
