“Wonderful adventure!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 18, 2014

We were super excited to sea kayak but the weather seemed to be against us. Our last day in Gros Morne was sunny but quite windy, even in the morning. Gros Morne Adventures were very accommodating and planned an alternate route due to the wind so that we could still kayak. Our guides Jesse and (sorry but can't remember the other guy's name) were awesome!!! Very fun, cracking jokes, telling us local trivia, and sharing their flora and fauna knowledge. We were more experienced than the family of four that we were with but the guides still managed to keep everyone entertained and together. A wonderful day of kayaking on the ocean, we'd go back in a heartbeat.

“Great guides and fun experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2014

We booked the 2-hour guided kayak trip + 1 hr aquarium tour. Our two kayak guides were Zach and Maria, both of which were very knowledgeable and friendly. My wife and I had a great time chatting with the guides and learning about this history and wildlife of Bonne Bay. Through no fault of the guides, our tour group was a bit of a disaster in terms of flow due to my wife and I (early 30's, experienced kayakers in solo kayaks) being paired with a family with 3 young children (french-only speaking) in tandem kayaks with their parents. Both guides did a great job, given that neither was francophone, and it was still a very nice morning on the water.

The Bonne Bay Marine station was the second part of the tour. Zach was our guide for this part and, I would say, performed heroically given that the three children could not understand his directions or explanations and the parents did not seem too interested in corralling them. This led to an almost comical exchange in which Zach was trying to show us the various claw-armed crustaceans while at the same time preventing the children from being pinched as they tried to grab for the lobsters and crabs, despite being told repeatedly not to. Despite all this, we both found the aquarium tour very interesting and enjoyed seeing the behind the scenes look at how the aquarium is run and all the different native sea creatures they had on hand.

We would definitely consider using Gros Morne Adventures again for a different tour at the park, but we'll hope for a better match in terms of the rest of the group...

“Great hike across the Tablelands”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2014

We went with guide Sue from Gros Morne Adventures and another couple for a guided hike up into the Tablelands as our first venture into the Gros Morne National Park. Going with a guide is the only way to go beyond the boardwalk to hike up and see this rare geological landscape and the flora that somehow live on the mantle rock. The hike is challenging with a lot of rock hopping and a steep descent. Hiking poles advised. But it's a beautiful trip and you have the mountain to yourselves all day. Sue is a great guide and very knowledgable about the park and local area. We highly recommend a hike with Gros Morne Adventures if you really want to make the most of your visit to the park.

“Awesome tour, awesome staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 9, 2014

My mom and I went to Newfoundland for the first time and truly enjoyed the 2 hour tour. It is a great way to see the national park and be in touch with nature. The guides were great, and the pace was doable for a beginner!

Thanks so much, we hope to be back!

“Not for kids”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2014

Took my twin grandchildren (boy - girl) to this Kayak facility, only to be told that they were not big enough; They stand 61 inches and weigh between 85-90 Lbs. They have taken paddling courses in Ottawa but none of this did not seem to count. They seemed to prefer having an adult go with each kid. In our case that was not possible. Strangely, their brochure has a child on the front cover in a double Kayak; however there is no information in their brochure that informs parents of the restrictions. MIKE E.

Hello Mike,
Thank you for your review. You are correct in that we do not rent single kayaks to youth to go out on their own on Bonne Bay. We apologize if this information was not provided to you when you first corresponded with us. When we rent kayaks we take into consideration (1) one’s experience doing self and assisted rescues (2) the current and forecasted weather/water conditions (3) one’s ability and experience to choose a paddling route appropriate to one’s experience (taking into consideration the tide, swell and potential for wind at the time); and (3) the ability for all paddlers in the group to paddle in windy conditions. I know this is somewhat of a subjective call on our part but if we do err we rather it be on the side of caution. In addition, our insurer expects due diligence and to operate with a high standard of care. This is our 25th season operating sea kayaking tours and thankfully we have enjoyed an excellent safety record to date.

What we do offer young paddlers is the option to kayak in singles on our guided tours (provided they have the strength to maneuver their own boat in the conditions forecasted). The guides are equipped with tow ropes as well as being well trained to rescue capsized paddlers. On the guided tours we also offer young paddlers the option to paddle in double sea kayaks together (again if physically capable) or with an adult. The photo of the young person in a kayak on our brochure, referenced in your review, was taken by me. The young girl was in the front of my double kayak.
I have reviewed your trip advisor report with our staff. We strive to offer good service and your feedback is important to us. Please email or call me at 1-800-685-4624 if you would like to discuss your experience further.
