The polar bear and the story behind it is the main draw for this little museum. There are plenty of artifacts, but nothing really out of the ordinary. Still, is a nice 20 minute stop.

A nice little museum on top of a hill in Durrell. A minimal entry fee allows you to take your time to enjoy the various displays of different time periods as well as offering you the opportunity to watch the National Film Board documentaries on Polar Bears and Whales. There are items for sale, mostly made by local artists and craftspeople, and easily accessed and clean washrooms on site. If you're in the area, make sure to drop in.

This is a very small museum and we went primarily to see the Twillingate Polar Bear. They have a small gift/craft area that was not very good.

We visited the Durrell Museum in July 2013 on a rainy day. We weren't expecting much as this museum is located in a small town but were pleasantly surprised. The museum contains many artifacts and also has a gift shop corner with locally made items. There is a nice view from the museum as it is located at the top of a hill (see photo). Well worth the minimal entrance fee and great for a rainy day. Would highly recommend!

Nice museum which exhibits many artifacts of the culture and heritage of the local area. There is a small fee for visitors but it's definitely worthwhile to see, and get your photo taken, beside a stuffed polar bear located just within the entrance. Apparently, the bear is one of two that wandered into the community a few years back. While one bear was anesthetized and transported back to the wild, this polar bear had to be shot and killed when it got a little too close to children playing in the community. Sad for the bear, but still an interesting story and exhibit for visitors to see.
