“Very friendly and perfect for this small island”
Reviewed October 18, 2010

We arrived on Saturday for a one night stay with our bikes. The staff were so helpful and friendly. We had the most amazing sunset and apparantly one of the best days weather wise. There was a curry night on which was superb. The rooms were comfortable and we were lucky in that we had two different views from our bedroom.

I'd been idly planning a visit to Gigha for over 40 years so when it came to it I was a little anxious whether the island and the hotel would live up to expectations. I needn't have worried. Gigha is great! And so is the Gigha Hotel. As soon as we entered the reception area it felt warm and welcoming. All the staff, without exception, were really friendly. The rooms are well appointed. And the food is excellent. I can recommend the Gigha halibut, the Gigha rhubarb and crumble and the kippers at breakfast.

Very nice hotel, very friendly staff. Room was good, view was stunning. Bar is atmospheric. Food (especially fish) is very good, but I'd recommend eating in the bar. Breakfast was OK (why serve Lorne sausages?!)

We had a wonderful 2 days here.
the hotel is 3-4 star. You won't need fancy clothes. The food in the dining room is good - especially the fish and the homemade bread is excellent.
If you book the suite - be warned that it is on the top floor, which involves 2 sets of stairs. The bathroom is difficult in the suite if you are tall as there is a coombed ceiling. It is nice to have your own sitting room though - and the view is stupendous.
The gardens are a must and the whole island is a delight. The flowers in May/June are amazing and the tine coves and beaches all so very near.
There is the boathouse nearby to eat at as well and the shop is a 3 minute walk.
There is a book case in the hotel - if you are travelling light.

Although initially a bit disappointed with the lack of character, the comfort and cleanliness of the room, and the stunning view, well made up for it. Restaurant food good but bar food average. Excellent breakfast. Our dogs were welcome too.

It has been a few years since we last visited Gigha, and I was worried that time had rosied the memories of our trip. But Gigha came through for us - two days of blissful blue skies and spring flowers, white sandy beaches and seafood. The hotel is perfectly comfortable and hospitable. If I had to criticise at all it would be perhaps that the butter is in those ever present little foil wrappers and the breakfast yoghurt was mass produced anonymous stuff (as was the jam) Any chance of local produce? But it is a tiny niggle, and should not in any way detract from the total experience which was very close to heavenly...

The Isleof Gigha is a remote yet friendly place - theGigha hotel plays a central role in this through the bar and restaurant in the hotel. The hotel is run by local residents who provide anexcellent service.

Rooms: were a decent size, clean and comfortable. The only downside was that the shower would have benefitted from more pressure The rooms were certainly quiet.

Restaurant/bar: were both great places to relax in. The food served in the restaurant was first class, both dinner and breakfast. Probably the best chocolate pudding I have had!
