“Golden Girls and Boys”
Reviewed May 16, 2014

Just returned from a very enjoyable 2 night stay with a group of old friends (12 of us). The staff were marvellous, as coping with a group of boisterous 'seniors' is no mean feat but they did an amazing job and especially young Cara (who I am sure will sail through her tourism and hospitality course when the time comes). Also thanks to Cristian, the very patient young chef, who gave us a lot of input into choosing the dishes that we would prefer to eat for dinner. All in all it was a lovely break in a magical setting all helped by staff who made us feel welcome and it was a very 'home from home' experience. Also a comment re the views was made by one of our party who said that the hotel car park has the finest views in the world!!! TRUE.

stayed at the stables in the steadings Friday 9th to Monday 12 may 2014. fab digs, great location. ate a fine meal Friday in the gigha hotel and a fabulous meal Saturday at the boathouse. location is good -about a mile walk to hotel and slightly more to the boathouse.staff at hotel are very friendly and helpful. Phyllis and Rona at the boathouse too. Local shop was of value for bbq stuff and fresh oysters. a wonderful weekend - can't wait to visit again and tremendous value for money.

Room Tip: cannot add anymore than I've said except try it.

Spent a weekend at the Gigha Hotel on the very competitively priced £120 DBB deal for 2 nights. The room was spacious (Room 4) with two windows overlooking the sea and the garden. The bathroom had a bath as well as a shower which was very welcome. The quality of the décor is basic, but the room was clean and had everything we needed.

What really makes this hotel is its staff and the quality of the food. Every member of staff was friendly, helpful and welcoming, especially the young waiting staff Cara and Jamie who had a maturity beyond their years. Cara is local and very knowledgeable about her island. It was so refreshing to see a lovely young person with no attitude problem such as is often encountered in big cities. She is a real asset to the hotel. Jamie is off to pastures new at the local fish farm.

The friendly young Polish chef turned out magnificent meals using seasonal local produce. To do so on what must be a tight budget shows real innovation. We had no issue with paying a small supplement to sample local fresh scallops and halibut. The breakfast was sumptuous and kept us going all day. The smoked haddock omelette was delicious and the full island breakfast of top quality - thick bacon, very fresh local eggs, etc.

We took the car over, but there is really no need unless you are older or infirm. The hotel is close to the ferry terminal. Bikes are available to hire locally. There are lovely little beaches close to the hotel and Achamore Gardens is within easy walking distance, as is the local shop (very well stocked) and the church.

Gigha is a gem of an island and much less busy in mid May than in August when I last visited on a day trip.

We will be back and would have no hesitation in recommending the Gigha Hotel for a short break.

Room Tip: Room 4 is a twin rather than a double, but has a twin aspect with lovely views. It is very spacious...

We visited Gigha for just one night on an island-hopping tour. The hotel - run by the local community - was a delight, with welcoming staff and good food. We had a great walk in the local area. This was an ideal place to return to for our hungry and thirsty group!!

My husband and I booked a stay at this hotel from 18 -21 April Easter weekend 2014 . We had a 20 min ferry crossing , we arrived at hotel and were met by lovely man who we took to be the owner , he covers reception bar etc . We were on half board package an easter special . The hotel is in a beautiful setting overlooking the beach . We were in room 12 which had a view of beer garden and beach great room , tv hairdrier tea making facility. Our first night we had the most amazing battered fish and chips huge portion really lovely soup to start and lovely sweets . Also their is a veggie option . The breakfast was huge full scottish or mackerel choice of eggs , cereal fruit juice. grapefruit or prunes . This is a very friendly laid back kind of hotel . Valerie the receptionist is very nice and helpful , Jamie our waiter from Largs was very attentive , he helped me with my ipad and phone , had a few problems . Our waitress too didnt get her name she was really nice very friendly . We went to both sides of the island we took our car over , but really you wouldnt need it , if you wanted to you could hire bikes or canoes . There is also a campsite albiet small down at the Boat house , where they serve lovely food ,lobsters were 25 pounds , we didnt eat their but heard food was good. The island is only 7 miles wide , lots of wee sandy beaches with one all to yourself well we had . Post office and general store sell most things , girl in their also very nice and helpful . We didnt manage to Achamore gardens , costs 6 pounds I think . Their is also sc accomodation different sizes and costs . These sell up very quickly . Their is only the one hotel on Gigha , cost to take car over was 14 return and about 5 pound return each passenger . We found this beautiful Scottish gem and we are going back for one week later this year . If you want to have a quiet break with beautiful food, brilliant quiet beaches, good service , and you are deciding where to go , give Gigha a try you will not be dissapointed we werent .

Room Tip: Room 11 or 12 .

Nice cosy wee hotel. We stopped in for a quick snack on the way back to the ferry, the staff were friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed a hearty plate of soup and had a lovely chat with the barman who told us loads about the island and his relationship with it.

I returned for a weekend break with the whole family. [5 of us in two rooms] The deal for DBB was fantastic.
We had different rooms this time and the views were spectacular. [Rooms 4 and 7]
As usual the rooms were clean and exactly what you would expect for a small island hotel.
What was different this time was the new menu and the food. The food was actually very good before but this time it had moved up several notches with starters such as scallops or a half pint of shrimps. The main courses included some old favourites such as fish and chips which were great but also some new dishes which were a bit more imaginative.
Breakfast as usual was great with more than a normal person could possibly eat!
The staff were friendly and helpful and our waitress for the weekend, Cara, was both witty and charming.
We will be back!

Room Tip: We liked rooms 4 and 7 but were warned about noise from the bar below but this did not materialise.
