“Combination of home and outdoors makes a worthwhile day out from London”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2014

Winston Churchill's home is quite accessible if you are driving yourself, just a few miles off the M25. The style of this building with its alterations and extensions are educational on early and mid 20th century well to do life in Southern England , over and above the historical significance it has as Churchill's home. What I really liked about Chartwell was its setting, in a gently beautiful area which I thought of as truly English. Looked like it can be busy at peak times , but our visit early to late afternoon on a Saturday was manageable as far as crowds goes, and numbers were only really an issue for the house tour and the restaurant.

“Lovely house”

Inspiring visit to Churchill's home, well organised, guides available to ask any questions throughout each room in the building. Fantastic grounds with lots of areas to picnic, lovely rose garden and areas for a walk/ramble.

“We can understand Churchill even better now”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2014

I have seen pictures of Chartwell in books, so it was great to visit and see the location where Churchill was inspired and refreshed. For such a great man, the house is modest and human scale with a homely feel. We particularly liked the collections of Churchills paintings through the house and in his studio, the Rose book and especially the gardens and grounds. The working vegetable garden and play house are special touches and the lake is worth a walk around to get views of the house and to see the statue of the couple who made such a great team.

“Walking with Winston”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2014

My Chartwell visit was my third over three/four years. Each time I always find something different. This time it was the rain! However, it made the photographs stand out and the smells sweeter. There are always different flowers out this time of year and the trees are in full bloom. After a shortened walk around the garden, despite the rain, we moved inside. The exhibits appear the same but it does refresh one’s mind of the importance of this great man and what he did for our Country. A leisurely walk around the house and the garden are always pleasing even if you have been before. I shall probably go again next year too!

“Interesting”

A very interesting place to visit. You really got the feel of Churchill and them having lived in this house. The grounds were vast. Restaurant was good and so was the gift shop.
