So good to meet so many knowledgeable guides throughout Chartwell, house & gardens. So refreshing & the outlook of Churchills home is also set in beautiful Kent countryside with ample walks throughout stunning countryside.A Sheer pleasure to visit during any season. .

We were aware that the house would not be open, but the visit was most enjoyable.
A pleasant welcome and a walk around the gardens, which included a visit to the Exhibition Room and the Studio.
Very relaxing and the visit was completed with an excellent cream tea.
We will return in the summer, when we can visit the house.

We visited Chartwell because of Churchill. It's a small family home that conveys the character/personality of the man. The setting is beautiful, you can visualise him sitting in his garden with key thinkers. Churchill's story is brought to life extremely well in a personal and moving way. Despite being a great historical figure the live for his wife shines through.

I always love visiting Chartwell, at different times of the year. What mainly comes across is the huge personality of Churchill, who created this place for himself and his family, but enjoyed by the many distinguished visitors (not all politicians, they included distinguished artists and writers). The grounds are lovely, and the rooms are full of history. I keep returning

You can certainly see why Churchill bought the house, when you stand on the terrace overlooking the Kent countryside - the view is stunning. And although it's a big house, it's still has a sense of family and personality about it. It's worth noting that house visits are on a timed ticket so, when you arrive, go straight to the ticket office and book your slot (doesn't have to be immediately, we arrived at 11am and visited the house at 1pm). You can then relax, have a coffee or wander the gardens at your leisure. The guides in the house are brilliant - especially the 90-something gentlemen who was a D-Day veteran, knew Montgomery's son and whose tales you could listen to forever! Our only disappointment was arriving at 11am to find out there were no scones in the cafe!
