On a positive note the quality of the furnishings was excellent, the building was beautiful and the staff were polite and courteous but unfortunately that is where the positives end. We arrived at the hotel and were unsure where to book in as there were no signs and also no check-in desk - just the bar. The room was very small but we were pleased with the decor etc until we went to make a cup of tea and couldn't fill the kettle from the bathroom sink as it simply would not fit! We met up with friends and had meal in the bar which was very poor. When one of our party ordered chicken and chorizo tagliatelle the waitress advised that they were out of chicken and the chef offered the alternative of sausage with chorizo instead! Not an obvious choice. I was ill all the next morning after my meal and 3 others in our party were also illl. There are no blinds at the bedroom windows which is obviously a problem unless you want to be up at 5! The "do not disturb" sign does not actually fit on the door unless you are already outside the room as the door will not close! The worst problem however was the noise! Our party organiser was warned a few days before(bit short notice to change bookings for 9) that there was a club night and function during our stay and when they expressed concern as to whether this would affect us they assured them that we would not hear anything. The club night was loud but we tolerated it however the function noise was unbelievable! I telephoned the bar to ask how long the music would be on for and they said they would phone us back. A few minutes later Peter who I understand is the manager phoned and said the music would be turned down at 12 and then off at 1. Normally we would not be overly bothered by a bit of background noise but the music was directly below and the floor was literally vibrating. It was impossible to sleep at all. Peter said he would speak to me in the morning but that never happened! Just like the music being turned down at 12! Very disappointed not only in the quality of our stay but particularly in the total lack of customer service from the manager. As anyone knows people will forgive a lot if there is genuine care and consideration. This is definitely a case of style over substance!
