“Good location, comfortable hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 20, 2013

I stopped for one night in this hotel with my wife and two young children. The receptionist on check-in was very friendly and made a point of talking to my daughters who were very excited to be in a hotel.

The room was as expected for a Premier Inn. It had been recently refurbished and you needed to insert the room key card into a slot in the wall to turn the lights on - something not seen before in a Premier Inn (we only had been given one keycard though so was a bit tricky when one of us needed to pop to the car!)

For a family room it was a bit cramped with a double bed, the sofa-bed out and another single, but was ok for one night.

All-in-all a good stay, typical of what you get with Premier Inn.

Stayed for 3 nights from May 4th, checked in (will return to check in experience later) and we were given room 36 on the motorway side of the Inn. As said in previous reviews, although there is triple glazing the noise on this side of the hotel from the road is not good! After our 2nd night in room 36, we discovered that the toilet was leaking and after showering and getting ready for the day we reported this to reception. The receptionist was very apologetic and advised that we would have to move rooms and that a fresh room would be ready when we came back that evening (Premier Inn need to check the over flow cover in the bath in this room it is not fitted properly). Upon return another friendly receptionist greeted us and indeed the new room was ready and she had even moved all of our belongings, which we were grateful for.
Having eaten in the Table Table restaurant next door the previous 2 nights, there was a sign on the door to say the restaurant was closed due to a fire in the kitchens that afternoon. The helpful receptionist, after apologising made a few suggestions as to where to eat and even a takeaway, however we drove to a local business park and had a KFC, not our first choice but made a change.
Our second room 36 was on the other side of the Inn and the difference in traffic noise being away from the motorway was tremendous, much quieter. We had been out all day from early morning and I decided to have a bath, however much to our amusement the plug did not fit the plug hole. The Hotel has been refurbished but with cheap, shoddy fitments (in our opinion) and this will mean that they will continue to meet further problems.
We checked in on the 4th May at around 5.10 to 5.30pm to a very poor greeting, normally Premier Inn staff will ask if you wish to book a table at the adjoining restaurant, this lady did not. I therefore asked if we could book, they are not taking bookings she said as they are so busy (no apology ie sorry they are not taking bookings) she said if you get in before 6 you may not have a problem. We asked if there was anywhere else in the area to eat and the reply was "no not really!" so very helpful NOT. During our check in a gentleman had arrived who was trying to gain entry via the security door, however he did not have a room card to access but he did have a bundle of clothes in his arms. The receptionist whilst serving us said to him "sorry I will be with you in a minute" and left the desk whilst still dealing with us, in order to let him through the door and she apologised again. This really annoyed us we apparently did not deserve that courtesy.
Thank fully the other 2 receptionists we came across who had to deal with the problems we encountered were polite and sorted everything efficiently and we are not marking our review of this hotel down because of the problems we encountered they were handled very well. The review is that of average due to the first member of staff we encountered.

Room Tip: Try and get a room away from the motorway.

Stayed one night when visiting Oulton Pack Racing Circuit for bike racing, couldn't fault anything , everything explained when we arrived and told not to hesitate to contact reception if there was anything they could helped with. Booked a table for dinner for us, no wait and food was lovely , breakfast was order how much we wanted and cooked to perfection.

Room Tip: Try to get one that's not facing the motorway

Booked in the premier inn at Preston Brook on a business trip again and the room was to the normal high standard but beware the even number rooms are on the hard shoulder of the M56 and even triple glazing dont stop the noise, but Jans smile makes it worth it
A very busy Restaurant but I had concerns when two courses takes 2 1/2 hrs to serve and the scampi when placed on fork and lifted to mouth had water running from it down the fork but was crisp and hot wouldnt mind the wait for good food and the company a good ladie but when your on business and alone it a bit much

We booked a family room as we went to the Etihad to watch City and were off to celebrate a family birthday that evening whilst up from Norfolk just for the night as we normally just drive back! When we got there our room was booked as just for 2 people but the lovely receptionist went off to make the 2 extra beds in 5 mins flat apologising profusely! No probs then but....in the room...after using the loo it began flooding the whole floor and with it came a nasty niff!!Back to reception where the lovely VICKY called her manager and gave us 2 rooms next to each other for no extra charge! They were next to the motorway but the windows are triple glazed and you cannot hear a thing! We had rooms 16 and 18 on the ground floor! Vicky even printed off directions to the restaurant we were visiting! She was so apologetic as she could see we were tired!
This lovely girl deserves a pay rise as I have begun to lose patience with this chain and was ready to leave swearing never to use them AGAIN....what this girl did for Premier Inn in customer damage limitation should be marketed and she deserves a bonus because excellent staff like her are few and far between! Why does the company allow them to sell badly maintained rooms and leave staff to face the music when the product bar a few hiccups could be sooo good!
I'm glad we didnt leave...the breakfast at the restaurant was the best we've ever had, cooked to order rather than left sitting stewing as in the larger hotels, the manager was really pleasant as were the other staff there!Only thing I could fault was the coffee! Would stay there again...as long as Vicky's on duty!! hahaaa

Not the worst Premier Inn I have stayed in.The room was up to the usual standard clean and comfortable. The restaurant next door was ok good service and friendly staff, food was passable.I would book here again if I could not book ST Helens south.Breakfast was good and not much of a wait because the service was good.In general this is an ok hotel and restaurant with friendly staff.
