“lovely lake, serene yet close to the dity”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

I just love Hollingworth Lake. It is lovely to walk around, generally very peaceful, beautiful scenery and close to the Pennines. There are good pubs and a chippy if you feel hungry.
This place is also very special to me for family reasons, as relatives used to live near the lake, and I have visited with my father, who was delighted to be back in 'home territory', and we also took my children there. There is a sailing club.
You may also find several people 'escaping' from the town (Manchester) , which is easy to reach by car.

“Walk from the Lake to town.”
Reviewed March 20, 2013

We rode from Rochdale in a taxi up to the lake in Littleborough, then we walked the 3 1/2 miles down to Town Center. It was a lovely walk and a beautiful day. We even had tea in a shop by the lake ... as well as another in Town Center.

“Circular lake walk.”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

Just walking around the lake is nice and has lovely surrounding views. Does get plenty of foot traffic and dog walkers. It can get really busy at certain times. The car parking situation is not great. There is a visitor centre which has parking. There are also pubs and a chippy on one side of the lake.

I personally like some of the walks in the surrounding areas, and up to the hills nearby. There are books and maps of these available and they provide a quieter and more diverse walk.

“An oasis of calm just outside Rochdale”

Hollingworth Lake is an oasis of calm and a great place to take a walk with the kids to get away from the bustle of city life.
