I have stayed in this hotel on and off for a number of years. It just hasn't changed. Nice receptionists as always and the rooms are spotless.I expect nothing else. The shower is powerful and the RT towels are great ( i really must pinch one next time!) . Highly recommended

Room Tip: Top floor still smells new

Had Saturday lunch, nothing wrong with the meal its was the service that could have been better. Only 3 tables in and it was a bit slow, which must have meant it was being cooked fresh.
Will stick to going to the Crimble in future overall much nicer surrounding, same food and friendly staff.

Dear thetwoofusNw
Thank you so much for your feedback. We are so disappoint that didn’t enjoy your experience and that we let you down. The service at the Royal Toby is usually highly commended. We have fed back to the team and I am confident slow service won’t be an issue going forward. All our food is cooked fresh however, we don’t consider that a reason for delay.
I do hope you give us another opportunity to show that your experience was a one off

Executive room was reasonable, despite only having a Velux roof window. Aircon worked well but minimum temp was only 19 degrees. Bathroom very compact with only a very small glass shelf over the sink to accommodate all of your toiletries... There are no other places for bits and bobs in there.. Not even clothing hooks behind the door.
Because the bath was so narrow it was difficult to turn around in the shower..... Insufficient space!
However the shower was good and water was hot

Breakfast was abysmal with a very limited selection of produce on a small round table. I have never before seen grapefruit and orange segments on a flat dish with plastic tongs for serving..... Most hotels would use a deep bowl plus a large serving spoon..... However perhaps this would lead to larger helpings !!
Orange juice was the usual reconstituted chemical rubbish..... Why can't they use real juice rather than penny pinch?.... Overall breakfast was rubbish..

Tea and coffee in the hotel bar was also lack lustre....... Tea should be served with a tea pot and a jug of milk but here it's a cup with a tea bag in it and two small UHT milk pots...... Very very poor.

The Deckers group should be ashamed of the standard of this hotel and start looking to make some improvements ........... Dissatisfied customers are unlikely to return.

Dear Les F
Thank you so much for taking the time to feedback to us regarding your experience. I have had the opportunity to fully investigate your experience and I can advise you that we have instructed our maintenance team to look at whether we can achieve a lower temperature and if we can we will adjust the settings. The hotel manager is looking at the storage space in the bathrooms to see if they can be increased, the hooks are on the room door as opposed to the bathroom door, again we will look at relocating these.
With regard to your breakfast experience, this is well below our standards, the team should have put out our whole selection and from what you have described they didn’t. We have also had a chefs meeting to look at other improvements that can be made and have replaced our tea pots.
I do hope you will visit us again, I am confident you will have a much improved experience

We stayed at the Royal Toby on Saturday 29th June, on one of their "specials". The £95 offer included evening meal at the fantastic Fallen Angels restaurant (seperate review on their page will follow), bed/breakfast. This deal was for two which I think it's very, very good value.

We were here as a surprise night for my mother-in-law. She obviously knew that her and her husband were booked in, but the 4 sons/daughters booked rooms so we were supposed to shock her when she walked down to the bar. My wife rang twice and told reception this and was assured that it would be kept a secret, unfortunately the receptionist forgot, told my mother in law that we were also coming, and let the cat out of the bag. This ruined the surprise and we were a bit dissapointed.

On the plus side, the hotel were very aplogetic and even gave us two bottles of free wine with our meals - a very nice touch.

The food/drink was lovely, first class. The bar was quiet but nice to chill out after a big meal.

The rooms were spotless, modern with comfy beds. And the buffet style was great the next morning to sort out a slightly sore head.

Overall we had a brilliant night, the mix up has possibly made me put 4* instead of 5. Nonetheless they redeemed themselves. And we will be re-booking again for later in the year.

The Royal Toby is comfortable and clean for those that would like a hotel with a pub on the first floor. The evening meal was lovely. I recommend the sea bass with salad. Proper English breakfast cooked to order. The morning restaurant staff is a bit curt but the evening staff is pleasant and quick with a smile.

The hotel was clean, staff helpful. Me & my wife stayed in the Seddon Suite and to be honest, I wound rather of stayed in a normal room, this was no Suite but a room cluttered with furniture and a 4 poster bed. Would we here again, yes, but not in a Suite. Save your money and stay in a normal room.
Food at the Peacock rooms truly exceptional, breakfast at the Royal Toby was ok, but service could be better.

Dear Carlp0408
Thank you so much for your review, our four poster suite are very popular but no everyone wants a four poster bed. If the four poster bed isn’t for you then I would recommend our executive rooms at the top of the hotel, they are modern and spacious. We look forward to welcoming you again soon

Overall a pleasant stay in this efficiently run hotel. Plent of parking. Happy receptionist on arrival A fairly average room but spacious with a comfortable bed and trouser press. The big surprise in the morning was a fantasticly powerful shower which others have mentioned but for me was the hotels hidden secret. Market this feature more, you won't believe how many UK hotels provide nothing more than a dribble over the bath!
