Unlike other local tapas restaurants this is a gem. Plenty to choose from, food plentiful and lots of choice including specials. Reasonably priced, nice little cosy place with tentative staff.

Thank Melanie M

We stayed overnight at The Rake on bank holiday monday. The room was brilliant, Olde Worlde but with modern fixtures and fittings, expensive taps etc and really well finished off, Ginormousmassive bed, crisp white sheets and pillow cases and superb pillows.( i didnt have to sleep diagonally like i usually have to) and modern tv and shower. Its always the bed, towels and shower that let hotels down but not so here.
A fantastic chill out area to the rear and very private...
The food was exquisite too, both the evening tapas (especially the scallops, hmmm , yummy..!)and the breakfast , with all products bought locally.
We neglected to bring a map but Mark, the owner, provided us with a decent sketched map for our walk, and he even tried to find us accommadation for our trip to Whitby in November, (thanks mark we got in at Robin Hoods Bay)
We will defo be returning for longer next time
Best of Luck Mark

It sounds a strange culture clash but it works! A lovely old stone inn with a history, and inside very atmospheric décor and good food, also good music - excellent.

The weather yesterday was warm and still, so unusual for round here, that we decided to try this place for a taste of Spain, for a friend's birthday. Unfortunately all the outside tables were already taken, hardly surprising as everybody wanted to enjoy the warmth of the setting sun. So we opted for a sunsoaked table indoors. That was in an amazing old room where you can still imagine the old sheepfarmers sitting round the large, smoky fireplace 300 years ago. The 3 of us chose 6 dishes, some to share, some for our own tastes. The Feta salad was great, and warm bread with olive oil nice, although I always find it hard to accept the price of a few bits of bread in restaurants, here or on holiday abroad.
My friend ordered mussels in white wine, and was give a huge pot of 30! I had the lamb chop and was given 2 with a load of tasty little roast potatoes. If the menu had made this clear, we would not have ordered a separate plate of patatas bravas. I think the brief menu needs a little more detail. The other dish was the meatballs, which again were plentiful and covered in sauce and cheese. We all took our leftovers home, as we were pleasantly full before we finished. It was nice to have a spanish waiter and as all 3 of us are trying to improve our spanish, the poor chap was very kind in his responses to our feeble attempts at conversation. I'd go back there but ask a bit more about what comes with each dish before ordering.
