Booked in here last minute for the first two nights of a bathroom renovation at home (when we realised just how disruptive that is!). Booked directly through Holiday Inn's website. The hotel is serviceable, while not being luxurious and possibly overpriced when booked this way. Staff were pleasant and accommodating. The dinner menu has a reasonable choice if perhaps a little overpriced. The main problem with this hotel is the fact it is used as an overnight stay for people departing/arriving from Manchester Airport, which can result in a lot of noise from the corridors throughout the night. Our room was large enough and clean and serviceable with comfy beds, and the bathroom is perfectly adequate for this sort of hotel. Did not take breakfast either morning so cannot comment on that. The hotel's location right next to the 2nd Runway at Manchester didn't seem to be too much of a problem so the double glazing must be quite good. In conclusion, it did for our immediate needs, but there are better choices out there.

Booked car parking and one night stay when flying from Manchester. Returned exhausted after 11hour flight looking forward to good night's sleep prior to driving home. Had to wait an hour for shuttle bus as they run to a timetable. On arrival we were checked into a ground floor room with an interconnecting door through which we could hear the screams of children in the family room next door. We returned to reception and asked to be given a quiet room which was requested on our booking form. They could not offer us a twin room anywhere in the hotel although there seemed to be very few guests about. The double room we were offered had a small double bed so this was not suitable. We were so tired we agreed to accept the noisy twin room as the children seemed to have quietened down by then. However our other neighbours arrived in the early hours of the morning and they were a group of extremely noisy teenagers who kept us awake for hours. I can't imagine why the management would sandwich an elderly couple, who requested a quiet room, between a family and a group of teenagers. I would not recommend this hotel for comfort or for a peaceful night. I agree with the other posts on this site with regard to the rooms and lack of extras eg. biscuits, toiletries etc.

My last review for this hotel was written 3 years ago. My work travel agent booked me in here and I hoped that the the management might have taken some heed of the reports on Trip Advisor. No such luck - it was almost exactly the same - overheated rooms even with air con, the corridors do smell. Even in what I was assured was an executive room it was cramped with one person. The only bright side was the decor in the rooms which was as you would expect and the bathroom was acceptably clean. Staff were not on the sharp side, and the public areas ruined in a full service hotel by the vending machines.

Do Intercontinental Hotels actually inspect their franchises? Because this one has been letting them down for 3 years at least and doesn't show any signs of real improvement. The hotel seems to shrug its shoulders and just say like it or lump it.

I stayed here for 2 nights whilst working in Macclesfield. It is a nice hotel, that feels like it is in the middle of nowhere. It is very quiet. The rooms are comfortable and clean, and the parking is good.

I had a meal in the resturant, and both that and breakfast was very good. There is also a good Pub/Resturant a little futher up the hill towards Wilmslow, called the Honey Bee.

stayed here on valentines night as competition winners, from the moment we checked in we found it to be a warm and friendly atmosphere, the room though a bit small was warm and spotless, the food in the evening was really superb and the breakfast excellent, the country walk was really nice, hope to come back here one day
many thanks

I remember when Holiday Inns arrived in the UK - great big bedrooms with twin double beds and modern decor the like of which we had never seen in hotels before. Holiday Inns were exciting! The brand values were strong - Leicester, Newcastle, Birmingham and all the others had these huge twin-double rooms, like they have in the USA.

But oh how the brand has been diluted! Why do they franchise places like the one at Manchester Airport (formerly the Swiss Valley Lodge). There were no problems with the public rooms, the good food, the cleanliness, the friendly staff, the decor, even the keen rates. But our double room was no more than a box-room - 10 feet by 10 feet. I measured the bed-side table - it was 5 inches by 10 inches and completely covered by a telephone. The double bed was 5 inches from the wall on one side. The bathroom was a cubicle with a sliding door - no space for one that opened. Yes, they had done their best to fit the furniture in (curved surfaces so you didn't hit the corners) but every time my wife and I wanted to pass each other, we had to do a little dance.

So what does the Holiday Inn brand now mean in the UK when you have to sleep in a room no bigger than a broom cupboard?

I wouldn't normally write a review on a chain hotel like a Holiday Inn, however I had to comment on the fact that this hotel doesn't really have any issues other than the room we were in was possibly the smallest double room either of us has ever seen. I don't think we'd use this hotel again if we were looking for an airport hotel at Manchester.
