“For the price hotel offers you cant expect miracles”
Reviewed August 31, 2013

From previous reviews you already know that rooms are quiet dated and you cant really expect much for the price you pay.

We stayed in room 14, which is next door to a Breakfast restaurant, as you can imagine it is not ideal if you were planning to wake up at 7-8, because you WILL wake up around 6 am (its the time when breakfast starts). We could hear all conversations, people coming and leaving..which made my husband think- was it even worth staying over in the hotel..

Parking- there were no proper (and by proper i mean-visible from the road) sign stating where the parking is, we tried to park at the front, but the car in front of us took 2 spaces, when i decided to check why its difficult to park i saw that the driver just couldnt be bothered possibly to move his car an inch closer to the hotel.
Staff member at the reception was kind enough to show us that there is parking at the rear though.

The next morning when we wanted to leave the hotel there was a car parked on our way, yes they left a telephone number, but when i have called they didnt have a clue why i am calling them, so we had to wait until someone comes, ridiculous right?!

Plus we had no hot water...also what was inconvenient is that tea/coffee pots had no signs on them, so the staff member had to literally tell everyone what drink and where, which I assume is a bit annoying to both staff member and guests

Oh, one last point, when we were checking out we went to reception desk, male staff member was on a phone and next to him was a female staff member who didn't acknowledge our question or us, which says it all..

Dear Sir/madam
We thank you for your stay at the Cranbrook Hotel. We are sorry to note that you were disturbed by the activities in the Breakfast room but we have taken good notice of your comments to improve on that side. As for the Parking we have plenty of parking space at the Front of the hotel and at the back of the hotel and we are surprise to see that you could not find a convenient space to park. All our Coffee and tea pots are properly marked for our Guest not to be confused. We normally have one reception at the desk to deal with our Guest and this other person was a stranger to the hotel signing the visitor’s book to go in.
We always consider the comments made by our Guest very positively and we aim at continuously improving for your satisfaction.

Manager,
Bilal Jamil

I stayed at the Cranbrook for 2 nights on 28th July 2013, booking 2 rooms. We were a party of 3 adults and 1 child. We wanted to visit London but had a limited budget.

I was happy..... we paid £45 per room for a clean en-suite room on the Saturday and £35 per room for the Sunday night. This included free parking and a perfectly acceptable breakfast. What more do you need!!

The communal areas, stairs, reception and landings are tired and in need of repainting, but i didnt sleep on the landings so that didnt bother me at all.

The rooms we stayed in (rooms 4 and 10) are dated with a few little areas in need of repair/maintence (cracked floor tile in bathroom, missing light fitting on wall light). However both our rooms were clean and the bedding was clearly clean and ironed. We had plenty of tea/coffee facilites, a tv, and our bathrooms were clean and what you would expect. I have no complaints on the room. Yes, its a little tired, the curtains, furniture and carpets could do with updating, however no body can complain for £35/£45 a night.

Breakfast was absolutely fine, the friendly staff take your hot breakfast to order. Toast, tea, coffee, cereals, fruit juices and fruit are laid out to help yourself. We left breakfast very full and again for the price you cant complain.

Every member of staff we met was extremely friendly and polite.

The location is very good, 10mins walk to ilford train station. Then another 10mins to Stratford tube station then into central London - totally easy and stress free journey (and that was on a Monday morning!).

We felt perfectly safe in the hotel area, there are a good selection of shops nearby, including a tesco express and superdrug chemist. I would stay here again if i needed a budget hotel, and would suggest that if you are on a budget then this is a perfectly suitable hotel to stay in when visiting London.

When we came we had a warm welcome. The room was in another house which was very old. It was clean but very small for four people and very simple. Every day was the service good with new towels ans cleaning the room. The beds were ok. The breakfasttime is early so you must go by time because the room is definitly to small for the hotel and for the number of rooms. The qualität of the meals is ok. The qualität of the hotel is for this price absolutly ok.

The service, both at the desk when we needed help with routemaps and other things, and in the room where we had our breakfast was excellent. The staff did a great job to help and serve us and we will recommend Cranbrook Hotel to our friends and relatives. It was a bit hard to find the way without a GPS though but that was the only disadvantage.

Well first of all on the website on travel stay.co.uk it says a few mins from tube station, this is rubbish, it's a good 30 min (£5 in a taxi) walk. I chose the 'few mins' as have 2 kids so thought after a long day in London I wasn't asking them to walk miles back to the hotel.... Wrong!
We had a family room with kitchen/ diner and to the kids delight a jacuzzi corner bath. The rooms are old and tatty but to be honest what do you expect for £100 inc breakfast for 2 nights for 3 folk In London ! One of the beds was dire the mattress was none existent, you felt every spring and the board. The pillows weren't great either. We did have a flat screen tv on the wall which was very modern. We queued for breakfast but the poor women doing breakfast were doing their best to get you seated ASAP. The cooked to order breakfast was ok, tinned mushrooms and flourescant tomato ketchup aside, oh and whole milk Bleugh ! Staff very friendly. Basically my only gripe was the distance to the tube everything else I can live with.

Dear Ruth197
We thank you for your stay at the Cranbrook hotel. The Cranbrook Hotel is in a Victorian Building which obviously carries its age but the interior is constantly renovated to be in line with a more modern style. The nearest station to get to the Cranbrook Hotel is the Ilford overground station which is only 5 to 7 minutes walk to the Hotel. We have in all cases taken good note of your comments and have passed them on to our housekeeping and booking teams because we have a policy of continuous improvements to meet the needs of our Guests at all times.
We hope to see you again under the roof of the Cranbrook Hotel again.
Kind Regards

Decor tired, rooms pokey, no bar, no evening meals, no way ever again. The staff advised that the station at Ilford was only 5 mims walk, took me 15 minutes fast pace. One I arrived was shown a room that still had someones pocession in it.
One positive note the breakfast wasn,t bad.

Dear Guest,
We thank you for your stay at the Cranbrook Hotel. We regret to note that your expectation was far beyond the facilities the Hotel offers.
